Chinese Boeing Suffers Oil/Gas Leak, Emergency Landing

What: Shenzhen Airlines Boeing 737 flight ZH9852 en route from Beijing to south China’s Shenzhen city
Where: emergency landing in northeastern China — at the Zhengzhou airport
When: Monday Feb 16 at 3:45 p.m
Who: 119 passengers, no injuries.
Why: After the crew discovered the left engine was leaking [oil], the jet to make an emergency landing. However, a news report stated that the cause of the fuel leak was an engine seal ring. There is no word on what caused the [oil] leak.

    Boeing’s India Commitment

    NEW DELHI, Feb. 9, 2010 — Boeing [NYSE: BA] will present world-class products and services including the F/A-18IN Super Hornet, C-17 Globemaster III, P-8I, AH-64D Apache and CH-47F Chinook to Indian government officials, military officers, and other valued stakeholders at Defexpo 2010. The exhibition takes place Feb. 15-18 at the Pragati Maidan complex in New Delhi.

    “This is an important year for Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) in India,” said Vivek Lall, BDS vice president and India country head. “Many of our products and platforms are currently in competition or under active consideration by the government, and we are looking forward to demonstrating how they will quickly contribute to India’s defense modernization and bring long-term industrial benefits to the nation.”

    Boeing is kicking off its Defexpo participation with a preshow briefing for the media at noon on Thursday, Feb. 11, at the Taj Mansingh Hotel. During the show, BDS executives will invite stakeholders into an F/A-18IN Super Hornet cockpit simulator to demonstrate the aircraft’s advanced features, including its superior air-to-ground and air-to-air capabilities. Boeing also will provide media briefings on the C-17 Globemaster III and on two Boeing Rotorcraft products in current competitions — the CH-47F Chinook and AH-64D Apache. An Airborne Battle Management briefing will cover Airborne Early Warning and Control as well as the P-8I long-range maritime patrol and anti-submarine aircraft. India selected the P-8I for its navy last year; the first of eight aircraft is scheduled to enter the fleet in 2013.

    Malaysia Airlines Flight Update

    Although the Malaysia Airlines has denied reports of a beacon, the Malaysian navy has said publicly they have tracked the wreckage of the missing Malaysia Flight MH370, and has dispatched a plane, two helicopters and four vessels i addition to the Philippines three navy patrol boats and one surveillance plane. Chinese ships and aircraft are on standby with eight ships belonging to the Nanhai Rescue Bureau and the Hainan Maritime Safety Administration, and a supporting air fleet. Boeing expressed their concern and are sending a team to assist the investigation.

    Meanwhile, in spite of the airline telling the public the whereabouts are unknown, families are being told to take their valid passports to KLIA airport before 6 pm for MAS travel arrangements to the crash site.

    If the plane is down (and even if it is magic thinking, we are still hoping it landed safely somewhere), search and rescue is still within the “24-hour golden window” in which it is more likely to find survivors. Eighty% of the family members have been contacted by Malaysia Airlines, according to Malaysia Airlines at the conference at Sama Sama Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, March 8, 2014.

    The plane that is missing is registration number 9M-MRO. In September 2012, the plane was on the ground and suffered an airfield incursion when it collided with a China Eastern Airlines’ Airbus.

    UPS Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Shannon Airport

    UPS flight 5X-209 made an emergency landing at Shannon Airport, Ireland, on November 18th.

    The Boeing 767-300 plane heading from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Cologne, Germany, was diverted after the crew needed to shut down one of the engines.

    The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained safe.

    Penang: Malaysia Airlines Boeing Engine Vibration

    What: Malaysia Airlines Boeing 737-400, en route from Singapore to Penang
    Where: Penang Malaysia
    When: Mar 25 2010
    Who: 88 passengers and 7 crew
    Why: On approach to Penang, the right engine developed vibration. Passengers heard loud noises and saw fire flashing from the engine. The crew shut down the right engine and continued on approach to Penang where they made a safe landing.

    Scandinavian Airlines Plane Rejects Takeoff From Oslo

    Scandinavian Airlines flight SK-4023 had to reject takeoff from Oslo, Norway, on December 9th.

    The Boeing 737-700 plane was accelerating to takeoff for Stavanger, Norway, when the crew rejected takeoff due to an engine failure.

    The plane safely returned to the apron. No injuries were reported.
