    Chopper Crash Kills 10

    What: PT Nyaman Air Bell 412 Chopper chartered by PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals en route from Manado Sulawesi Island in Indonesia to the Gosowong Mine
    Where: Manado, Bitung, North Sulawesi
    When: August 2, 2011, 2:30
    Who: 10 aboard, (8 employees and 2 flight crew)
    Why: The helicopter PK-FUG flown by pilot Edi Purnomo crashed into Mount Dua Saudara while en route. Nine aboard died in the crash, including two Australians, two South Africans and four Indonesians were passengers on the flight. The crew were Indonesian.
    The flight was missing initially. Foggy weather hampered the search until it was finally found at 2 a m August 3, with one survivor, who died en route to the hospital. Work has been suspended at Newcrest’s Gosowong gold mine in North Sulawesi, Indonesia.

    The chopper took off at 4:26 a.m. and lost contact with ATC shortly after takeoff.

    The chipper was a joint venture between Australia’s Newcrest Mining and Indonesian company Aneka Tambang.

    Hollandscheveld Crash Injures 3

    Where: Hollandscheveld, Netherlands
    When: August 4, 2012
    Who: 2 aboard, 1 on the ground, 3 injuries
    Why: The plane took off at 11.30 from the nearby airport in Hoogeveen. After engine problems developed, the pilot reported via radio that he had an engine failure. He made a forced landing and struck an outbuilding and came to rest in a residential garden.

    Both occupants of the plane and one person in the shed were injured.

    Plane Carrying MSU Basketball Team Makes Emergency Landing in St. Louis

    A chartered plane, carrying Mississippi State men’s basketball team, made an emergency landing in St. Louis, Missouri, on the night of February 14.

    The incident happened when the team was returning to Starkville after defeating the Missouri Tigers in Columbia, Missouri.

    According to Mississippi State sports information director Gregg Ellis, the plane had to land in emergency after its right engine failed.

    The plane landed uneventfully and no one was harmed.

    Another American Airlines Emergency Diversion

    Due to an unspecified mechanical issue, American Airlines flight 3551 (Embraer 145) en route from Norfolk to Miami diverted to Jacksonville and made an emergency landing on April 8, 2013.

    No injuries were reported. None of the 3 crew or 38 passengers were injured; and the passengers were provided an alternative flight to Miami.

    Iran Aseman Airlines Plane Crashes in Iran; 66 Killed

    Iran Aseman Airlines flight EP-3704 crashed in Semirom, Iran, on February 18th.

    The incident happened when the plane was heading from Tehran to Yasuj, Iran.

    The plane was carrying sixty passengers and six crew members at the time; all of them were killed in the crash.

    American Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Port of Spain Airport

    American Airlines flight AA-2282 made an emergency landing in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, on May 29th.

    The plane took off for Miami, Florida, but had to turn back after the crew heard some unusual noise from the cargo hold and suspected somebody might be stuck inside.

    The plane landed back safely.

    The airline said a mechanical issue was the cause of the noise in cargo hold.
