    What: Easyjet Airbus 319 en route from Gatwick to Lanzarote
    Where: Nantes
    When: Sunday November 29, 8.30am.
    Who: 136 passengers
    Why: After a takeoff during stormy weather, the plane was struck by lightning. The plane returned to London and made a safe landing. After landing, the plane was checked out and deemed safe, and went on to make the flight to Lanzarote.

    A passenger describes the experience.

    “There was a huge flash and a loud bang. The plane shuddered and there was quite a lot of turbulence, the worst I’ve ever experienced. Then the aircraft suddenly dropped dramatically and some people were quite scared. As we landed back in Gatwick, we had fire-engines chasing us down the runway.”

    Conviasa False Reading over Caracas

    What: Conviasa Boeing 737-200 en route from Barcelona to Caracas
    Where: Caracas
    When: Sep 16 2010
    Who: 97 passengers
    Why: On approach to Caracas Venezuela, the plane systems alerted problems with the right engine. Pilots shut down the right engine and made a safe landing.

    Brussels Airlines Plane Diverts to France due to Odour in Cockpit

    Brussels Airlines flight SN-3765 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Toulouse–Blagnac Airport, France, on July 13th.

    The Airbus A319-100 flying from Brussels, Belgium, to Palma Mallorca, Spain, had to divert due to an unusual odour in its cockpit.

    The plane landed safely.

    All 140 people aboard remained safe.

    Shenzhen Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Fire Indication

    Shenzhen AirlinesShenzhen Airlines flight ZH-9638 had to return and make an emergency landing in Shenyang, China, on August 5th.

    The plane took off for Zhengzhou, China, but had to return shortly afterwards due to a fire indication.

    The plane landed uneventfully. Everyone aboard remained safe.

    Fighter Jets Escort Korean Airlines Plane to Stuttgart, Germany

    Korean Airlines flight KE-917 was intercepted by two supersonic fighter jets on July 15th.

    The Boeing 777-300 plane heading from Seoul, South Korea, to Zurich, Switzerland, was over Berlin, Germany, when it lost communication with the ATC.

    The German Air Force subsequently dispatched two fighter jets that escorted the plane to Stuttgart, Germany.

    The plane landed safely in Stuttgart. All two hundred and eleven passengers aboard remained unharmed.

    Alitalia Falling Parts in Mineola

    What: Alitalia Boeing 767-300 en route from Rome to New York
    Where: New York
    When: Jul 3rd 2010
    Why: While on an otherwise uneventful flight, the plane’s (1′ X 2′) access door disengaged and fell around 4 pm at the Nassau County Courthouse in Mineola,NY.

    Individuals at Nassau County Courthouse retrieved the access door after witnessing it strike the ground. Alitalia discovered the door missing after landing in NY.
