Why: When the left engine caught on fire, the pilot diverted to Ataturk Airport where they made a safe landing. There’s no indication of accommodations for passengers, or if a replacement flight has been sent.

What: Emirates Boeing 777-200 en route from Dubai to Houston
Where: Dubai
When: Aug 8th 2010
Why: The pilot taking off in the Emirates 777 rejected the high speed take-off, deflating nose gear tires. No injuries were reported.
A replacement jet was provided.
A US Airways jet, performing flight 1851, hit runway lights while trying to land in Charlotte, North Carolina, on August 15.
Authorities said the Airbus A321 was coming from Atlanta, Georgia, when the pilot reported wind shear. The plane then hit the runway lights while trying to land, damaging the underside of its tail.
There were 153 passengers and 6 crew members aboard at the time; all of them remained unharmed.
The U.S. accident investigators have launched an inquiry into the incident.
Martinair flight MP-8341 made an emergency landing in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on July 14th.
The Boeing 747-400 freighter plane took off for Johannesburg, South Africa, but had to return shortly afterwards due to an engine failure.
The plane landed back safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.
Bulgaria Air flight FB-408 made an emergency landing in Vienna, Austria, on December 11th.
The plane heading from Brussels, Belgium, to Sofia, Bulgaria, was diverted due to a cracked windshield.
The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
United Airlines flight UA5 had to return and make an emergency landing at London Heathrow Airport, UK, at around 3 p.m. on October 10.
The Boeing 787, en-route to Houston, Texas, was returned after it got struck by lightning midair.
The plane landed uneventfully and none of the 130 passengers was hurt.
United Airlines said that the aircraft was taken for examination.

What: Bukovyna Aviation McDonnell Douglas MD-88 on behalf of Taban Air en route from Mashad to Hamedan Iran

Why: After takeoff, the flight developed problems with the left engine.
The pilots returned to Mashad and made a safe landing.
