    Who: 3 fatalities
    Why: The pilot asked to deviate because he saw “a hole” in the weather. Radar showed a cluster of thunderstorms, level three to four were present in the vicinity of N9143B’s position. N9143B started an uncontrolled descent from FL260 (about 27,500 feet msl). Witnesses reported hearing the engine make a winding noise.?The airplane come out of the clouds about 300 feet above the ground, in a nose low spiral, and the right wing was missing. The ilot’s inadequate weather evaluation resulted in in-flight separation of the right wing and right horizontal stabilizer and the subsequent loss of control and crash.

    CommutAir Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Nose Gear Problem

    CommutAirCommutAir flight C5-4919 made an emergency landing at Washington Dulles International Airport, Virginia, on September 24th.

    The plane was flying from Albany, New York, when the crew reported a nose gear problem and declared an emergency.

    The plane safely landed without nose gear.

    Two passengers were transported to hospital with arm injuries.

    El Al Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Tel Aviv

    El Al flight LY-27 had to return and make an emergency landing in Tel Aviv, Israel, on June 4th.

    The Boeing 747-400 plane took off for Newark, New Jersey, but had to turn back after the crew was informed that tire debris had been found on the departure runway in Tel Aviv.

    The plane landed back safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Where: Sudbury
    When: May 12th 2009 21:07 (eighteen minutes)
    Who: 21 on board
    Why: While en route, the oil pressure and ITT indicators came on for engine number two just before it made a big “bang.” The pilot shut down engine two and returned to Sudbury for a safe landing

    Norwegian Air Shuttle Returns to California due to Oil Leakage

    Norwegian Air Shuttle flight DY-7064 had to return and make an emergency landing at Oakland International Airport, Alameda County, California, on July 22nd.

    The Boeing 787-800 en-route to Oslo, Norway, had to return due to engine oil leakage.

    The plane landed safely.

    No injuries were reported.
