    Qantas (GE) Engine Vibration Turnback

    What: Qantas Boeing 767-300 en route from Perth to Melbourne
    Where: Perth
    When: Nov 12th 2010 3.15 pm
    Who: 234 passengers
    Why: After takeoff, while still near Perth, the left engine (GE) began emitting abnormal vibrations. The engine was not shut down, but the pilots decided on a a routine turnback, and returned to Perth and made a safe landing. Passengers were booked on to alternative flights with up to a five hour delay. This Qantas Boeing incident has nothing to do with the Qantas incidents related to a flaw in Airbus A380 engines.

    Unruly Passenger Hauled off by Mounties and Fined $28,000 Canadian

    What: Virgin Atlantic Boeing 747-400 en route from Orlando,FL (USA) to Manchester
    Where: Gander
    When: Oct 21 2010
    Who: 451 passengers and 17 crew
    Why: While underway, a drunken passenger got into a brawl with his wife and father in law. The pilot diverted to Gander where the disruptive passenger, UK citizen Roy Anthony Heaps, was escorted out of the airport by Mounties.

    The court ordered Heaps to pay a fine of $15,000 for charges of assault, uttering threats, mischief and interfering with an air crew; and restitution to the airline along the lines of 13,000 Canadian Dollars.

    SAS Iced en Route

    What: SAS Scandinavian Canadair CRJ-900 en route from Copenhagen Denmark to Helsinki Finland
    Where: Copenhagen
    When: Dec 28th 2009
    Who: not available
    Why: While en route, the pilot determined that deicing had failed. (Prior to taking off in icy weather, planes are treated with icing retardant. One can presume that the plane was icing over in spite of the de-icing procedure.) Also, conditions in Helsinki were a factor.

    American Airlines Emergency Landing at Will Rogers World

    What: American Airlines MD-80 en route from Dallas to Calgary
    Where: Oklahoma City
    When: June 2, 2011
    Who: 56 passengers 5 crew
    Why: While en route, emergency indicators came on in the cockpit. The pilot diverted to Oklahoma City and landed at Will Rogers World Airport.

    Small Plane makes Emergency landing on I-85 due to Engine Trouble

    A small plane had to divert and make an emergency landing on Interstate-85 near Lexington, Davidson County, North Carolina, on November 16.

    The plane, en-route from Dayton, Tennessee, to Silver City, New Mexico, had to divert due to an engine trouble.

    The pilot tried to land at Davidson County Airport, but could not make it.

    The plane landed safely. No one was injured.

    Fumes Provoke Emergency Landing in Charleston

    What: PSA Airlines/US Airways Canadair CRJ-200 en route from Nashville,TN to Washington National,DC
    Where: Charleston
    When: Jan 12th 2012
    Who: 23 passengers and 3 crew
    Why: While en route, the crew noted cargo smoke and diverted to Charleston.

    The flight was cancelled.

    After landing, the plane was inspected by emergency services, who found a closed system to be leaking.
