    Iowa Plane Crash Kills US Senate Candidate

    PiperA single-engine Piper PA-46 aircraft crashed near Dubuque Regional Airport, Iowa, on October 13.

    Dr. Doug Butzier, a Libertarian candidate running for the U.S. Senate seat in Iowa, was killed in the crash. He was contending against the Democratic candidate Bruce Braley.

    According to FAA spokesperson Lynn Lunsford, the plane crashed at around 11 p.m. while it was approaching the runway to make a landing. He also confirmed that the plane departed from Ankeny Regional Airport around an hour earlier.

    Butzier was the only one aboard the aircraft when it crashed.

    The NTSB is investigating.

    SCAT Bombardier Crashes 5 Miles from Airport, 21 Fatalities


    On Jan 29, 2013, A SCAT-owned Canadian-built Bombardier Challenger CRJ-200 # UP-CJ006 en route from Kokshetau Kazakhstan to Almaty crashed in Kyzyl Tu village five miles from the Almaty airport.

    The weather conditions consisted of low cloud cover and fog.

    There was neither fire nor explosion, but the plane shattered when it hit the ground which was covered in heavy snow.

    None of the 16 passengers (including a child) or 5 crew survived.

    SCAT is a domestic airline that was established in 1997 that has a fleet of six 50 set jets

    Bad weather and poor visibility is believed to be the cause of the crash at 1.p.m.

    Helicopter Crash Kills Experienced Pilot in New Zealand

    HelicopterA Hughes 500E helicopter crashed on Koatanui Rd in Brunswick, northwest of Wanganui, New Zealand, at around 9:30 a.m. on October 28.

    The helicopter was being used to spray farmland near the State Highway 3 at Kai Iwi, when it crashed.

    The pilot of the helicopter, identified as Peter William Robb, 56, was killed at the scene. According to the executive officer of the New Zealand Helicopter Association, John Sinclair, he was a “very experienced pilot, well-respected in the industry”.

    The CAA is investigating the cause of crash.

    Two Soldiers Killed in Helicopter Crash at Fort Campbell

    A U.S. military helicopter crashed during routine training at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, on April 6th.

    Two soldiers were aboard the AH-64E Apache helicopter when it went down.

    Both soldiers were killed in the crash. They were identified as Chief Warrant Officer 3 Ryan Connolly, 37, and Warrant Officer James Casadona, 28.

    An investigation into the cause of crash is underway.

    Why: The plane landed in high winds, bounced on to the nosewheel, banked left and when the left wing, hit the runway, a fire ensued.

    American Airlines Bird Strike in Miami

    What: American Airlines Boeing 737-800 en route from Chicago to Miami
    Where: Miami
    When: Oct 11, 2012
    Who: 148 aboard
    Why: On landing in Miami, the plane suffered a bird strike. The bird was ingested in the engine according to Matt Miller of American Airlines. Pilots made an emergency landing with emergency services on standby.

    Passengers in the video below describe the smell of the burning bird, taking off after touching down.

    No injuries were reported on Flight 1388. 145 of those aboard were passengers.
