Why: After leaving San Francisco thirty-five minutes late, the United plane’s left engine caught on fire and the plane diverted to Sioux Falls where they made a safe landing. Passengers anticipate being rerouted and facing multiple layovers before reaching their destination.

Parking Lot Crash-Landing in Kearny Mesa
At 5:30 p.m., a single engine Mooney M20L registered to William and Devon Logan of San Diego lost power over San Diego, struck a light pole and crashed in the Kearny Mesa Costco parking lot. One woman died at the scene; the other was evacuated to Sharp Memorial Hospital. Two witnesses who were assisting the injured, were treated for burns. Alaska Airlines Passenger Tries to Open Door Mid-Air
Alaska Airlines flight 7 had to make an emergency landing at Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport, Minnesota, on August 29th.
The plane heading from JFK Airport, New York, to Seattle, Washington, was diverted after an unruly passenger tried to open a door mid-air.
The plane landed uneventfully. There were 180 passengers aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.
The unruly passenger was arrested upon landing.

Why: Approaching White Plains, the crew realized the right landing gear was jammed. The pilots diverted to JFK, and made an emergency landing described as being “a shower of sparks” on the tarmac but no fire ensued. The plane skidded to a stop leaning to one side, after utilizing only 2/3 of the landing gear.
Passengers rode a bus to terminal three, and told reporters about their terrifying landing, full of praises for the captain and crew. Delta apparently provided a bus to take them to their correct destination.

Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Washington County
A small plane made an emergency landing along Highway 555 in Washington County, Kentucky, on the afternoon of May 28.
The plane was flying from Bedford, Indiana to South Carolina when it developed some engine issues.
The pilot Robert Kinion then informed the FAA and made a safe emergency landing.
No injuries were reported.
Hawaiian Airlines Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Kahului
A Hawaiian Airlines flight had to divert and make an emergency landing in Kahului, Hawaii, on March 27th.
The plane heading from Oakland, California, to Honolulu, Hawaii, was diverted after smell of smoke was noticed in the cabin.
The plane landed safely. All 241 passengers and 10 crew members aboard remained unharmed.
AA Plane Catches Fire at O’Hare International Airport; 8 Injured
American Airlines flight AA-383 had to reject take off from O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, Illinois, on October 28th.
The Boeing 767-300 plane was accelerating to take off for Miami, Florida, when it caught fire, prompting the crew to reject take off.
The passengers were evacuated through slides. Eight people, including 7 passengers and 1 crew member, were injured and were taken to hospitals.
It is believed that the fire sparked after failure of right hand engine.
