    United Airlines Flight Returns to Newark After Loss of Cabin Pressure

    United Airlines flight UA-956 had to return for an emergency landing in Newark, New Jersey, on June 12th.

    The Boeing 767-300 plane took off for Geneva, Switzerland, but had to turn back due to loss of cabin pressure.

    The plane landed back safely Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Ryanair Diverts to Brussels

    What: Ryanair Boeing 737-800 en route from Eindhoven to Ibiza
    Where: Paris
    When: May 15th 2012
    Why: The flight was en route over Paris when a problem developed, and the crew diverted to Brussels where they made a safe landing at Brussels South Charleroi Airport (BSCA).

    The plane will be examined to determine the nature of the problem. (We an only assume the rocking motion passengers complained of was not turbulence.)

    Virgin Australia Hits Turbulence

    What: Virgin Australia Boeing 777-300 en route from Phuket Thailand to Melbourne
    Where: over Jakarta
    When: Jan 31, 2011
    Who: 4 passengers, 4 flight attendants
    Why: While en route, the flight encountered twenty seconds of turbulence that tossed just-served food, flight attendants, passengers and trolleys around, and shook them up. On encountering the turbulence, the pilot made an announcement requesting “passengers buckle their seatbelts.”

    Two to four members of the flight crew sustained minor injuries, and four passengers. They were attended by paramedics six hours after the turbulence, on landing at Melbourne.

    Reports of food poisoning on this flight were unsubstantiated.

    British Airways Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Azerbaijan

    British Airways flight BA-198 made an emergency landing in Baku, Azerbaijan, on December 11th.

    The Boeing 777-300 plane heading from Mumbai, India, to Heathrow Airport, England, was diverted due to smoke in the cabin.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All one hundred and thirty-five passengers and seventeen crew members remained safe.

    Norwegian Air Shuttle Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Dublin

    Norwegian Air Shuttle flight D8-1823 had to return and make an emergency landing in Dublin, Ireland, on August 23rd.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane was heading to Providence, Rhode Island, when the crew noticed an APU problem and decided to turn back.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All passengers and crew members remained safe.

    Saudi Arabian Airlines Lands On Nose

    What: Saudi Arabian Airlines/Onur Air Airbus A300-600 en route from Madinah to Jeddah
    Where: Jeddah
    When: May 1 2012
    Who: 10 crew
    Why: Pilots had an indication of unsafe nose gear and landed without nose gear at Jeddah at 12:55. Emergency crew (reported as “civil defense but that could have been a translation error” sprayed the runway. The crew disembarked via slides. There were no injuries reported.

    The flight was “a special flight from the western town,” with ten crew and no passengers. We assume a ferry flight.

    The video shows mobile stairs that are up for the post flight check-up, but notice the steep angle of the slide at the rear of the plane.
