Turkish Airlines flight TK34 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Shannon Airport, Ireland, on January 24.
It is believed that the Boeing 777, heading from Houston, Texas, to Istanbul, Turkey, was diverted after the crew found a note that had ‘bomb’ written on it.
The plane landed uneventfully. All 209 passengers remained unharmed.
Croatia Airlines flight OU-410 had to return for an emergency landing in Zagreb, Croatia, on September 4th.
The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Frankfurt, Germany, but had to return shortly afterwards due to a fault in left hand engine.
The plane landed uneventfully. All passengers and crew members remained safe.
IndiGo flight 6E-237 made an emergency landing in Kolkata, India, on December 10th.
The Airbus A320-200N plane flying from Jaipur, India, was descending toward Kolkata, India, when the crew declared an emergency due to smoke in the cockpit and cabin.
The plane landed safely. No injuries were reported.

What: Aer Lingus/Aer Arann Avion de Transport Regional ATR-72-200 en route from Manchester to Shannon

Who: 21 passengers, 4 crew
Why: The pilot made a safe landing in turbulence but the front wheel collapsed (on landing or during taxi). The plane veered on to the grass.
Passengers had to disembark on to the runway via stairs and were ported to the gate.
Horizon Air flight QX-2794 had to return and make an emergency landing in Portland, Oregon, on April 28th.
The plane took off for Albuquerque, New Mexico, but had to return shortly afterwards due to smell of smoke in the cabin.
The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained safe.

What: Ryan Air en route from Merseyside to Agadir, Morroco
Where: Liverpool John Lennon Airport
When: Jan 4 2010
Who: 115 passengers and six crew
Why: After takeoff, the plane indicated a fire aboard. The pilot turned around and landed at Liverpool John Lennon Airport while all activity was suspended. Passengers were moved from the plane as quickly as possible; no fire was found. The fire indicator light was judged to be faulty. A replacement jet was provided for the passengers.

Why: While en route, the crew discovered the plane was unresponsive to certain controls.
The crew returned to the airport and made a safe landing.
A replacement jet was provided for the passengers.
