    Helicopter Lands in Lake

    What: Tonnesen Aviation’s Robinson R44
    Where: Y-Landing Marina on Meredith Neck, Lake Winnipesaukee
    When: May. 26, 2009 11:30 a.m.
    Who: 4 aboard
    Why: The helicopter was struck by wind gusts on approach to the landing pad, and landed in 15 foot water. Everyone made it safely to shore. Pilot was Glenn Tonnesen. Passengers include Phil Davidson.

    I saw a comment online where someone cites the Robinson Helicopter Safety Notice:
    “Flying in high winds or turbulence should be avoided..”
    Sounds like a good idea to me.

    Norwegian Air Shuttle Plane Makes Emergency Landing due to Smoke in Cabin

    Norwegian AirNorwegian Air Shuttle flight DY-4464 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Stavanger, Norway, on March 27th.

    The plane, flying from Edinburgh, United Kingdom, to Stockholm, Sweden, was diverted after the crew noticed smoke in the cabin.

    The plane landed safely. All 161 people aboard remained unhurt.

    The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

    Korean Air Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Flaps Issue

    Korean Air flight KE-902 had to return and make an emergency landing at Charles de Gaulle Airport, France, on September 11th.

    The Airbus A380-800 plane took off for Seoul, South Korea, but had to return shortly afterwards due to an issue with the flaps.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All three hundred and thirty passengers aboard remained safe.

    THY Turkish Airlines Plane Rejects Take-off in Turkey due to Engine Problem

    THY Turkish Airlines flight TK-1995 had to reject take-off at Istanbul Atatürk Airport, Istanbul, Turkey, on July 29th.

    The Airbus A321-200 en-route to Manchester, England, was taking-off when its left engine emitted loud bangs.

    The plane returned safely to the apron.

    No one was injured.

    Bird Strike over Panama

    What: Continental Airlines Boeing 737-900 en route from Panama City (Panama) to Newark,NJ
    Where: Panama City
    When: November 18, 2011
    Who: 176 aboard
    Why: After takeoff, while climbing out of Panama City, the Continental flight suffered a bird strike. After ingesting the bird, the left engine surged, and caught on fire. Pilots shut down the engine, and returned to Tocumen Airport where they made a safe landing.

    Pilot Injured after Small Plane Crashed in Rhea County

    A small plane crashed on Dayton Mountain in Rhea County, Tennessee, on June 20th.

    The plane went down when the pilot was heading from Illinois to Atlanta, Georgia.

    The pilot was injured in the crash and was taken to Erlanger Medical Center, Chattanooga.

    The incident is under investigation.
