    What: Turkish Airlines Airbus A320 en route from Ataturk to Antalya
    Where: Ataturk International Airport
    When: Sept 5 2010 15:25 p.m. local time
    Why: After a bird strike, the plane returned to the airport. Damage to the plane is unknown; but passengers were rerouted on an alternative flight.

    British Airways Flight Returns to London Heathrow

    British airwaysBritish Airways Flight 103 from London Heathrow airport, United Kingdom, to Calgary, Canada, had to return and make an emergency landing on the evening of August 12.

    Smoke was discovered in the cockpit of the Boeing 767 while it was flying over Liverpool. The pilot requested an emergency landing which was immediately granted.

    According to a British Airways spokesperson Michele Kropt, “It [the plane] landed safely and all passengers disembarked as normal.”

    She confirmed that the engineers were inspecting the aircraft to determine the cause of smoke.

    Tigerair Australia Flight Returns to Melbourne due to Lightning Strike

    Tigerair Australia flight TT-471 had to return and make an emergency landing in Melbourne, Australia, on July 19th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Adelaide, Australia, but had to turn back due to a lightning strike.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    World War II-Era Plane Crashed; 2 Killed

    A two-seater North American AT-6C, a World War II-era airplane, crashed at about 3:30 p.m. near Buckley, Washington, on June 4.

    The small plane had been sputtering and flying low before crashing in a wooded area, around 40 miles southeast of Seattle.

    Two people aboard the plane were killed. The victims have been identified as James Robert Cawley, 62 and Rodney John Richardson, 72; both of them were residents of Buckley.

    The National Transportation Safety Board has been informed of the accident.

    What: Tarom Romanian Air Transport Avion de Transport Regional ATR-42-500 en route from Hungary to Romania
    Where: Budapest
    When: June 17, 2011
    Who: 34 passengers and 4 crew * corrected
    Why: After taking off from Budapest, the right engine made abrasive noises, and began smoking. The engines power turbine failed followed by the gearbox. The plane was stopped on taxiway. * corrected

    The pilot shut down the engine, and returned to the airport where they made a safe landing. The plane was shut down on the taxiway.

    Passengers were provided an alternative flight.

    Delta Airlines Flight Returns to Atlanta due to Engine Failure

    Delta Airlines flight DL-2091 had to return and make an emergency landing in Atlanta, Georgia, on July 3rd.

    The plane took off for Tampa, Florida, but had to turn back due to an engine failure.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
