    What: American Airlines Boeing 757-200 en route from Boston to San Juan, Puerto Rico
    Where: Logan International Airport
    When: Saturday 8:35 a.m-9:30 am
    Who: 185 on board
    Why: After smoke was detected in the cabin, the flight turned toward to Logan, and the crew found and put out the fire. The flight continued on to Logan, where passengers took alternative flights.

    Mishaps of the day

    Some events that happened today:

    • December 16, 2013, on JetBlue Flight 836#N661JB, the Airbus A320 arrived at the gate at JFK airport, New York, and the left wing struck the jet bridge. There was only minor damage and no injuries reported.
    • In Farmington NY on December 17, 2013, a Piper PA28#N43080 engine caught fire when the plane started up. The fire was extinguished, with unknown damage.
    • December 16, 2013, a Lancair/235#N15TG landing at John’s Island Charleston SC, when the nose gear collapsed. Minor damage was reported.
    • December 16, 2013, a Cessna/172 #N421ER was taxiing when the wing struck a light pole. The accident occurred in Wickenburg Arizona. Minor damage was reported.
    • December 16, 2013, an experimental plane, a Zenith 601#N581SL crashed in Leakey Texas under unknown conditions.

    Where: Starkville, Mississippi
    When: 12: 05 PM Nov 5, 2009
    Who: owner Ron Demeritt and instructor Rusty Bouchillon
    Why: On landing, the front landing gear were malfunctioning, so they retracted the gear and performed a “belly” landing, where they hydroplaned 100 yards to a stop.

    Demeritt has been flying for 20 years.

    UTair Aviation Plane Makes Safe Landing in Russia after Emergency Alarm

    UTairUTair Aviation flight UT-247 had to return and make a safe landing at Vnukovo International Airport, Moscow, Russia, on March 20.

    The Boeing 737-800, flying from Moscow to Surgut, Russia, was mid-air when the crew reported emergency alarm signalling engine vibration, prompting the plane to return.

    The plane landed safely.

    All 112 people on board remained unharmed.

    5-50 (?) Passengers Injured in Pia Turbulence

    What: PIA Pakistan International Airlines Boeing 747-300 en route from Jeddah Saudi Arabia to Lahore Pakistan
    Where: Lahore Pakistan
    When: Aug 30th 2011
    Who: 5 injured
    Why: On approach to Lahore, the flight encountered turbulence.

    Five passengers were injured during the turbulence. The flight made a normal (safe) landing. Published reports say the five injured passengers were not transported to the hospital, and that they were transported to the hospital.

    Pia spokesmen say the injured ignored the seat belt instructions. (We believe this.)

    The report that said there were 50 injured said they refused medical treatment.

    Some received treatment at the airport.

    The report that said there were 5 injured said they went to the hospital.

    Wideroe Flight Diverts and makes Emergency Landing in Norway

    WideroeWideroe flight WF-276 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Torp Sandefjord Airport, Sandefjord, Norway, on March28.

    The De Havilland Dash 8-400, en-route from Kristiansand, Norway to Copenhagen, Denmark, was mid air when the crew reported problems with the AC generators, prompting it to divert.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    All 43 passengers onboard remained unharmed.

    The passengers were accommodated in a replacement plane.
