    Cartagena Flight Diverts to Palm Beach

    What: Spirit Airlines Airbus A319-100 en route from Cartagena, Colombia to Fort Lauderdale
    Where: Palm Beach International Airport
    When: Oct 25, 2012
    Who: 54 aboard
    Why: As pilots were flying from Cartagena, Colombia to Fort Lauderdale, the plane developed problems and the pilots had to divert the flight. According to one source, one of the engines developed problems and was shut down. (Reports vary on the exact nature of the issue behind the diversion.)

    Pilots diverted to Palm Beach International Airport where they made a safe landing.

    What: Air Cargo Carrier Shorts SD-360 en route from Tupelo to Houston
    Where: Houston
    When: May 17th 2012
    Who: 2 crew
    Why: After the Air Cargo Carrier landed at Houston-George Bush Intercontinental Airport, it caught on fire. Aviation Herald claims the cause of the fire was “brakes of the right main gear.”

    Emergency services responded.

    We haven’t heard if the plane made a hard or fast landing, Houston temps, or if there was some mechanical problem like a lock-up that caused the fire.

    Cathay Pacific Plane Diverts to US Military Airport in Alaska

    Cathay PacificCathay Pacific flight CX884 had to divert and make an emergency landing at a U.S. military airport in Shemya, Aleutian Islands, Alaska, on July 29.

    The Boeing Co 777-300ER, en-route from Hong Kong, China, to Los Angeles, California, had to be diverted after it was filled with smoke.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All 276 passengers and 18 crew members remained safe.

    Amazon Flight Crashes; Wreckage, Survivors, found

    A military C-98 went missing Thursday between Cruzeiro do Sul in northwestern Acre state and the Amazonas town of Tabatinga. Eleven were on board. Nine survived, rescued by Matis Indians who live in the area.

    The bodies of two plane crash victims were found in the Amazon rainforest Sunday. The C-98 Caravan wreckage was found about six feet deep in the river. One body was found in the plane, the other close by.

    The miltary mission of the plane was anindigenous community immunization campaign.

    The engine of the plane stopped in mid-air, the pilot landing (deliberately or not) in the Itui River.

    Firemen Die in Helicopter Crash

    What: Aragon Fire Brigade government helicopter
    Where: Camarena, near Teruel Spain
    When: March 19 2011 13.30 am
    Who: 7 aboard, 6 killed, 1 injured
    Why: While en route to put out a fire outbreak in the area of ??Villel, 6 firemen died in a helicopter crash in Spain.

    Two helicopters assisted in the recovery of the bodies and rescue of the injured. The one survivor was taken to Hospital Obispo Polanco of Teruel where he is intubated after suffering broken ribs and head trauma. Psychologists of the 112 Emergency Center are meet relatives and colleagues of those affected.

    The President of Aragon, Marcelino Iglesias, and the Minister for the Environment, Alfredo Bone have traveled to Teruel. The initial fire which called out the fire helicopter has been controlled.

    We haven’t heard yet the make of the helicopter, or the names of those involved. The world is always worse off after we lose our heroes in tragic circumstances.

    Sheriff’s Helicopter Crashed at Hemet-Ryan Airport; 2 Injured

    Helicopter crashA Riverside County Sheriff’s helicopter crashed on the runway at the northeast end of Hemet-Ryan Airport in Hemet district, Riverside County, California, at 11 a.m. on August 28.

    According to the sheriff’s spokesperson Albert Martinez, the helicopter crashed during a low-flying training exercise. The FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said that the helicopter rolled over while the pilot was trying to land with a simulated engine power outage.

    Two deputies of the sheriff aboard the chopper suffered minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital.

    The tail rotor of the helicopter got snapped off due to crash. Hemet firefighters sprayed foam on the wreckage to stop any fire ignition.

    The Federal Aviation Administration has initiated investigation.
