1 Killed, 2 Injured after Cessna Crashed in Central Wisconsin
A single-engine Cessna 182 crashed near Owen in central Wisconsin at around 11 a.m. on January 26.The plane, carrying the pilot, Mark Siegwart, 27, of Hammond, Indiana, Nathan Smoot, 41, of North Pole, Alaska and Martin Siegwart, 56, of Boon, Michigan, was flying from Hammond, Indiana when it went down.
According to Clark County Sheriff Greg Herrick, “Nathan and Mark were friends and were flying the recently purchased plane back to Alaska from the Griffith Airport in Hammond, Ind…Along the way, they stopped in Cadillac, Mich., and picked up Mark’s father who was accompanying them on the trip.”
According to the pilot, the aircraft began to ice up and lose altitude. He was attempting an emergency landing on a road when it crashed.
Martin Siegwart was pronounced dead at the spot, while Mark and Nathan were injured. Both of the injured were shifted to hospital where the authorities confirmed that Nathan was later discharged while Mark was in stable condition.

A Cessna aircraft made an emergency landing on US Highway 301 in Manatee County, Florida, on the morning of September 11.Authorities said the pilot was attempting to land at Sarasota–Bradenton International Airport but could not make it. According to airport spokesperson Lionel Guilbert, “He descended. He said his engine started sputtering and at about 900 feet. The engine just quit altogether.”
The plane landed without incident. The pilot, identified as flight instructor Thomas Frick, remained unhurt.
The FAA is investigating.
2 Killed after Cessna Crashed in Amador County
A single-engine plane crashed between Amador Road and Gopher Flat Road, near Sutter Creek city in Amador County, California, shortly after 12:30 p.m. on December 24.The Cessna 172 went down when it was heading from Gilroy to Sutter Creek with 2 people aboard.
Authorities said both occupants were killed in the crash. They were identified as Phillip Faillers, 52, of Sutter Creek and his son Alex, 21.
The accident is under investigation. It is believed that fog might have contributed to the crash.

Why: After his engine exploded in mid-air, the pilot–with 8,000 flight hours in this type plane–aimed to land at Griffiss International Airport. While losing altitude, he pulled the plane (with its smoking engine) up, missing several homes and then dropping to land in an open field beside the Lake Delta Volunteer Fire Department, not far from the airport.A contractor, Wiggins Airways, out of Manchester, New Hampshire operated the plane.
