    Pia Jet Struck by Catering Truck

    What: PIA Pakistan to Manchester
    Where: Allama Iqbal International Airport Pakistan
    When: October 24, 2012
    Who: 203 aboard (183 economy class passengers, 16 business class and four infants)
    Why: After passengers had boarded for the 11:45 a.m. flight to Manchester, and the plane was about to taxi for take off, a catering van drove onto the tarmac and into the parked aircraft, damaging the door of the plane.

    Passengers disembarked and had to wait at the airport for hours until 7:30 when the replacement plane for PK 709 left for Manchester.

    Petrobra Oil Field Chopper Crashes off Coastal Brazil

    What: Senior Táxi Aéreo Agusta Westland AW139 from oil platform to Rio de Janeiro
    Where: in the Campos Basin, Rio de Janeiro
    When: August 19, 2011, 17:15
    Who: 4 aboard, 4 fatalities
    Why: On Friday afternoon, the chopper charted to Brazilian oil major Petrobras set out from the PetrobrasP-65 platform en route to Macaé.

    While miles from shore, the crew declared emergency, and went down 100 km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro. Contact with the chopper was lost at 17:00 local time.

    A Bandeirante Patrol plane and two search Brazilian military aircraft, the 4th Squadron of the 7th Aviation Group, a H-34 Super Puma helicopter, and the 3rd Squadron of the 8th Aviation Group initiated a search for the downed Senior Táxi helicopter. In all, there were five aircraft, a helicopter and four ships, including a Guajará Navy patrol vessel and a Lynx helicopter on standby in the area.

    After two days of searching in rough seas, three bodies were found on the ocean floor 100 meters down and 62 miles from the coast. One body is still somewhere in the ocean.

    The fatalities are listed as Rommel Oliveira Garcia, pilot, Lauro Pinto Haytzann, co-pilot, both employees of Senior Air Taxis, and passengers Ricardo Leal de Oliveira from the company Engevix, and Joao Carlos Pereira da Silva, the Brasitest inspector.

    Southwest Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Pensacola

    Southwest Airlines flight WN-1539 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Pensacola, Florida, on December 12th.

    The Boeing 737-700 plane heading from Orlando, Florida, to Houston, Texas, was diverted after a burning odor was noticed in the cabin.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All passengers and crew members remained safe.

    Sun Country Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Boise Airport

    Sun Country Airlines Flight 123 had to make an emergency landing at the Boise Airport, Idaho, at around 4 p.m. on September 25.

    According to the airport authorities, the decision for emergency landing was made after a warning light indicated an engine fire. The charter flight was en-route from Lewiston, Idaho, to Laughlin, Nevada, at the time.

    The Boeing 737 landed uneventfully and no one was injured.

    The investigation confirmed that there was no evidence of engine fire. The aircraft’s warning light indicator is being repaired.

    Piper Crashes in Australia


    What: Piper PA-31-350 Navajo en route from Moorabbin Aerodrome, east of Melbourne to Port Macquarie on the NSW mid-north coast. The plane had stopped at Bathurst to re-fuel.

    When: 8.30pm (AEDT) Friday November 7, 2008
    Who: Pilot Timothy O’Brien, 51, pilot’s girlfriend Jackie, 40; Senior Constable Erin Condon, 40, and her nine-year-old son Matthew
    Why: crashed shortly after takeoff from Bathurst. The plane exploded when it hit the ground and caused fires in the immediate area. The pilot tried to return to the airport but crashed 3 km shy. The families are in mourning.
