    Four Killed after Indonesian Air Force Plane Crashed into House in East Java

    An Indonesian air force plane crashed into a house near near Abdul Rahman Saleh air force base in Malang, East Java, Indonesia, on February 10.

    Authorities said the plane went down during a routine testing flight after undergoing maintenance.

    There were two people aboard the plane, including the pilot Major Ivy Safatillah, and a technician; both of them were killed in the crash.

    Authorities confirmed that two people, including a 47-year-old woman and 27-year-old man, who were present in the house at the time of crash were also killed.

    The cause of crash is being investigated.

    What: NOAR Linhas Aéreas Let L-410UVP-E20 en route from Recife to Natal
    Where: 1.1 miles SSE of Recife-Guararapes International Airport
    When: July 13, 2011
    Who: 2 crew, 14 passengers, 16 aboard
    Why: Shortly after takeoff from Guararapes-Gilberto Freyre International airport in Recife, the Noar LET L410 Turboprop, the pilot declared an emergency. The crew said it would attempt to land at Boa Viagem beach, and made a steep descent.

    The plane reportedly into a vacant lot sandwiched between the Piedade and Boa Viagem neighborhoods at 0651 local time. The fire burned the plane, leaving a charred shell 300 feet short of where the pilot had intended to land. There was a total loss of life, but the black boxes have been recovered.

    The plane had a recent history of power loss on takeoff.

    The pilot had 15.000 flight hours and 2.000 on type.

    The pilot avoided landing on a densely populated area.

    LET is a Czech-built plane that had been in operation for a year. According to a spokesperson, two LET-410 twin-engine aircraft were purchased new in the Czech Republic. The Noar began its daily operations in the Northeast on June 14, 2010.

    Replica Avro Warbird Crashes


    What: World War I-era vintage Avro 504K owned by Wellington-based company The Vintage Aviator
    Where: Hood Aerodrome
    When: took off about 10.30am but crashed a few minutes later
    Who: The pilot’s name was not released.
    Why: the engines failed and the pilot, 34, tried to land the plane but was unable to clear the trees. The pilot was able to successfully exit the plane. The plane was disassembled in the tree and removed to be reassembled and repaired later.

    Squirrel Crash Kills Aussie Pilot

    What: Eurocopter AS 350B2 Ecureuil
    Where: 36km south of Manus Island, Papua New Guinea
    When: Feb 13, 2011
    Who: Pilot Mal Smith
    Why: While flying from the Eastern Highlands centre of Goroka to Manus for mining contractors, Australian Sunshine Coast helicopter pilot Lloyd Lester suffered engine failure in a Eurocopter AS350 P2-PHL Ecureuil, and crashed into the Bismarck sea en route to Manus Island. Eyewitnesses report indicate that the engine lost power, started up and lost power again.

    Pacific Helicopters owner, Mal Smith (who is also Eastern Highlands Province governor) said some of the wreckage was found, but not the engine or Mr Lester. He was hopeful he would be found alive, but three helicopters and two planes searched an area 24 kilometres to the west and 70 kilometres to south of Baluan Island and Mr Lester was not found. Nearby islands are being searched in case he made it to shore.

    Plane Crashes North of San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge.

    What: Cessna Centurion being used for aerial photography
    Where: crash/lands in the shallows north of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge.
    When: 2 p.m. Wednesday.
    Who: Pilot Matt Barcelona of San Jose and passenger Bruce Moody.
    Why: The pilot reported a loss of power before it crashed. Witnesses reported the plane left a dark trail. After the impact. they managed to get the door open. They waited on the plane’s wing until rescued by Coast Guard vessels conducting training sessions within fifteen minutes of the vicinity; passengers were taken to Yerba Buena Island, then to the hospital.

    2 Killed as Small Plane Crashes Near Idaho-Wyoming Border

    A small plane crashed in eastern Idaho near the Wyoming border, on January 4th.

    Authorities said the vintage Yak 52 Russian trainer aircraft went down about 2 miles north of the Alpine Airport, Wyoming.

    There were two people aboard, including Reade Genzlinger, 61, of Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania, and MacKenzie Ruston, 17, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Both of them were killed in the crash.

    The FAA is investigating.
