    Jazz Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Seattle

    Jazz flight QK-8301 made an emergency landing in Seattle, Washington, on June 8th.

    The plane flying from Calgary, Canada, was descending toward Seattle when the crew declared an emergency due to smoke in the cabin.

    The plane landed safely. All seventy-eight people aboard remained unharmed.

    Indian Air Force Plane Crash Lands at Chandigarh Airport

    Indian Air ForceAn Indian Air Force AN-32 transport plane crash landed at the Air Force station runway in Chandigarh, India, at around 8:30 p.m. on September 20.

    The aircraft developed some technical problem mid-air while returning from Bathinda and during landing it swerved off the runway, flipped over and caught fire.

    The aircraft had 11 people aboard, including 5 crew members. All of them were rescued however, some of them sustained minor injuries. The injured were taken to the command hospital, Chandimandir.

    The incident is being investigated by the Indian Air Force.

    Ukrainian Warplane Shot Down Near the MH17 Crash Site

    Ukraine FlagA Ukrainian fighter jet crashed after it was shot down near the crash site of MH17, in Eastern Ukraine, on August 7.

    The incident happened when the Sukhoi warplane was flying low over the rebel-held area, near Donetsk, some 40 km west of the site where the Malaysian Airline flight MH17 crashed on July 17.

    The aircraft exploded midair before it crashed into the ground; however, the witnesses reported that the pilot managed to parachute out.

    Spokesperson of Ukrainian military Vladislav Seleznyov, confirmed that rebels had shot down a fighter jet and said that “the pilot managed to steer the craft away from a residential area.” He also said that a search and rescue operation is being carried out for the pilot.

    Where: Fern Hill Wetlands, 2 miles south ofForest Grove, Washington County Oregon
    When: Sep 20, 2009
    Who: Two fatalities: Douglas Doty, a 34 year-old flight instructor from Beaverton, and Thomas Hagner, a 32-year-old student from Hillsboro.
    Why: The pilot lost control of the helicopter and crashed and caught on fire, according to witnesses at a nearby fruitstand and a farm. The difficult location made it difficult for rescue and safety personnel to reach the burning wreckage.

    What: ROBINSON R22 two-seater ROTORCRAFT en route from Island airport
    Where: Heritage Road and Steeles Avenue area of Brampton. GEORGETOWN, ONTARIO, CANADA
    When: 09/21/2009 Monday 8 pm
    Who: One fatality- pilot Keith Siversen
    Why: The helicopter is reported to have “careened out of control” in an orchard. It was owned by KEITH SIVERSEN with a temporary certificate expiring 03/05/2009.

    No Fatalities in Bangladesh Helicopter Crash


    On Feb 12, 2013, at 4:15 p.m. a Meghna Group McDonnell Douglas Md600N en route from Nimertek village in Rupganj upazila, Bangladesh hit a tree while en route.

    One account says the helicopter struck the tree in Narayanganj after suffering technical glitches.

    Two were hospitalized at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. There were two crew and four or five passengers. (Accounts vary.)

    1 Dead, 6 Injured after Heli-Ski Helicopter Crashed in Wanaka

    HelicopterA heli-ski helicopter crashed on Mount Alta near Wanaka, New Zealand, at around 12:20 p.m. on August 16.

    The accident happened when the helicopter run by Harris Mountain Heli-Ski was carrying 7 people, including a pilot, a ski guide and 5 skiers. All of them were New Zealanders.

    One of the heli-skiers died while all others aboard suffered injuries of varied degrees. Two of the injured with minor injuries were taken to Wanaka Medical Centre. Four with comparatively serious injuries were transported to Dunedin Hospital.

    Skyline Enterprises Chairman Mark Quickfall said, “I spoke to one of our senior pilots who was first on the scene. As he said to me, it’s a perfect day for flying and heli-skiing. Certainly not windy. So [we] can’t put any light on it at this stage.” He also said there were six other helicopters out heli-skiing on the same day.

    The Civil Aviation Authority and Transport Accident Investigation Commission are investigating the cause of the crash.
