Miracle and Tragedy for Two UT Air Ivanyuta and Peil Families

Who: 1 delayed identification
Why: Today Russia’s Ministry of Transport suspended UTAir at Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport for permitting 4 ATR-72s to depart without de-icing and anti-icing in weather conditions conducive to icing; and suspended UTAir’s ATR-72s pending the investigation.

Only three of the twelve survivors of the UT Air crash are out of intensive care.

The UT Air crash is a story of 31 tragedies. Amidst these terrible stories, a mistaken identification has come to light. There were four bodies in the crash which could not be identified.

Konstantin Peil died on April 2.

One of the passengers reported as missing, Dima Ivanyuta, had been mis-identified as Konstantin Peil. Ivanuyuta’s family was hopeful. When they went to the hospital, they found their miracle. Dima was recognized by his sister Anastasiya. His identity has been verified by DNA testing.

It is a sad thing for Peil’s family, and a roller coaster for Ivanyuta’s family. While Peil’s family held a funeral for him Monday, Ivanyuta’s family is now praying for Ivanyuta’s recovery. Doctors expect him to recover.

For the family that lost their Konstantin, I can only offer condolences.

For the family who has found their Dmitry, we offer our congratulations. It is said he is conscious and aware and in possession of his memory so we can only wonder what shape Dima must have been in for the mistake to be perpetuated. It may be that in the critical hospital ward where he is located, no one was speaking to him by name. For the family who suddenly has their son back, no one needs to underline what a miracle it must feel. Like going from death to life. That doesn’t happen–nothing is more final. And yet you have your son back, and the possibility of hope and a future. We wish you well. The prayers of the world go with you.

    Turkish Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Moscow

    Turkish Airlines flight TK-415 had to return for an emergency landing in Moscow, Russia, on January 12th.

    The Boeing 737-900 plane took off for Istanbul, Turkey, but its tail hit the runway during rotation.

    The crew subsequently returned to Moscow where the plane landed safely.

    Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Hockey Team not injured in Mordovia Mishap


    On January 9, 2013 at t 01 h 10 min, a Mordovia Airlines Antonov 24rv#RA 46640 landing at Saransk Airport, Mordovia Russia skidded off the runway.

    The flight was from Krasnodar to Kazan, with a fuel stopover in Saransk airport.

    The plane was carrying a flight crew and the “Ariada – Akpars” hockey team. Five crew and twenty-nine passengers were aboard. There were no injuries reported. Passengers were provided an alternative flight for the remainder of their trip.

    Russian Crash kills 88

    On September 14, 2008, at 0510 local time, Aeroflot-Nord flight 821, a Boeing 737-500, Bermuda registered (VP-BKO) and Russian operated, equipped with CFM56 engines, crashed on approach to Perm airport in Perm, Russia. All on board, including 6 crew and 82 passengers, suffered fatal injuries. The initial notification from the Russian government reports that 17 of the 82 passengers were of non-Russian nationality, some of which included U.S. citizens. The flight originated from Moskva- Sheremetyevo Airport (SVO) in Moscow, Russia with an intended destination of Perm Airport (PEE) in Perm, Russia and was conducted as a scheduled passenger flight.

    The accident flight was reportedly lost from radar as it was executing a missed approach, for unknown reasons, at the destination airport. The aircraft collided with the ground in the city and was completely destroyed by impact forces and fire.

    The investigation is being conducted by the Russian Interstate Aviation Committee (MAK). The NTSB has launched a team of investigators and will be assisted by Technical Advisors from the Federal Aviation Administration and Boeing Aircraft. According to the MAK, the Bureau d’Enquetes et d’Analyses (BEA) of France, representing the state of manufacture for the aircraft engines, and the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) of the United Kingdom, representing Bermuda as the state of Registry, will also participate in the investigation under the provisions of ICAO Annex 13.

    Monday Russian forensic scientists began using DNA testing to identify bodies and relatives visited the site; some were taken to the hospital in shock.

    What: Aeroflot Nord Boeing 737-500 Flight 821, en route from Moscow to Perm. The 737 had been leased by Aeroflot from Dublin-based Pinewatch Limited from late July until March 2013.
    Where: Crashed just outside the airport but inside the Perm, Siberia city limits. (conflicting reports say the plane landed in either a swamp or a ravine.) It missed an apartment block.
    When: 3:40 a.m. Sunday
    Who: Eighty-two passengers — including seven children and six crew members. Multiple nationalities were on the flight, including nine from Azerbaijan, five from Ukraine, and one each from France, Switzerland, Latvia, the United States, Germany, Turkey, and Italy,
    Why: Bolshoye Savino Airport air traffic control lost communication with pilots at at about 3,600 feet just before landing about 3:10 a.m The crash also disabled a section of Trans-Siberian railway. The weather was described as “mediocre.”

    • Crises centers for relatives were set up in Moscow’s Sheremetyevo-1 airport and in Perm.
    • The airline pledged to pay “compensation on obligatory accident insurance in full, which would make up to two million rubles (some 80,000 dollars) per victim.”
    • In 2007, 33 Russian aviation accidents that left 318 dead, raising concern over Russia’s civil aviation. Experts blame faults in the training of and aging fleets.
    • Transport Minister Igor Levitin will be leading the investigation.
    • A witness said “It was burning while still in the sky and it looked like a falling comet.” The plane hit the ground sharply — at a 30 or 40 degree angle.

    Bird Strike in Novosibirsk

    What: Vladivostok A320 en route from Novosibirsk to Krasnodar
    Where: Novosibirsk
    When: Jul 3rd 2011
    Who: 152 passengers and 8 crew
    Why: After takeoff from Novosibirsk, the plane’s right engine ingested a hawk.

    The pilot burned off fuel and made a safe landing three hours later with engine vibration.

    Antonov Emergency Landing in Mirny

    On Feb 05, 2013, an Alrosa Mirny Air Enterprise Antonov An-38-100 with 27 aboard was en route from Mirny Airport to Nakyn field when the luggage hatch opened.

    The flight ended eighteen minutes after it started when pilots made an emergency landing.

    Redwings Airlines Suspension Pending


    Red Wings Airlines is grounded. Almost.

    Beginning Feb 4, Red Wings will be suspended due to the results of an inspection that turned up pilot training and flight preparation breaches.

    The Red Wings fleet is made up of Tu-204 jets.

    WE WONDER if the airline is under safety suspension why they are waiting until Feb 4 to ground the airline. If it is truly unsafe, why is it not immediately grounded? Why wait?

    Rosaviatsia has said it had found various violations, and claims the airline’s financial problems prevent adequate fleet maintenance.

    The airline is owned by Alexander Lebedev who is affiliated with the Novaya Gazeta; his son owns Britain’s The Independent and Evening Standard.

    Lebedev said the suspension is unfounded, that his airline was unfairly targeted, a political move, and a campaign against Tu-204 planes.

    On January 31, Rosaviatsia officials questioned if Tupolev Tu-204 airliners should have been grounded after Tu-204 reverser failure at Moscow Vnukovo International Airport resulted in an accident that killed 5 Red Wings crew and injured 3.

    On December 29, 2013, a Red Wings Tu-204 crashed on landing after overrunning runway 19 when engine thrust reverser shells to fail to deploy at Moscow Vnukovo International Airport. 8 crew aboard, 5 fatalities, 3 injuries.

    On December 20, 2012, a Red Wings Tupolev Tu-204-100V skidded off the runway during landing at Tolmachevo Airport . No fatalities.

    On May 24, 2009, a Red Wings Tupolev Tu-204 developed fuel system problems and diverted to Krasnodar. No fatalities.

    On August 2, 2008, a Red Wings Tupolev Tu-204 made an emergency landing in Minsk after an engine failure. No fatalities.
