Why: Halfway between Mallorca and Sarina, an engine developed problems. Pilots shut it down and diverted to Sardinia, where they made a safe landing (described as a soft landing.)

AirAsia Plane Makes Emergency Landing due to Engine Issue
AirAsia flight AK-10 made an emergency landing in Penang, Malaysia, on November 23rd.
The Airbus A320-200 plane flying from Chennai, India, to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, was diverted after the crew reported an engine issue.
The plane landed safely.
Lufthansa Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Barcelona
Lufthansa flight LH-1129 had to return and make an emergency landing in Barcelona, Spain, on April 16th.
The Airbus A321-200 plane was heading to Frankfurt, Germany, when a loud bang from right engine prompted the crew to declare an emergency and turn back.
The plane landed safely. No injuries were reported.
The passengers were accommodated in other flights.
Allegiant Air Plane Returns to Raleigh-Durham International Airport
Allegiant Air flight 815 had to return and make an emergency landing at Raleigh-Durham International Airport, North Carolina, on December 3.
The plane took off for St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport, Florida, but had to return immediately afterwards after the crew reported smell of smoke in the cabin.
The plane landed safely. No one was injured.
The airline said the aircraft had a mechanical fault.
