There was heavy wind and rain, at the time of the landing. There were no injuries in the runway excursion.

Gol Transportes Aereos flight G3-1025 made an emergency landing at Galeao International Airport in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on January 15th.
The Boeing 737-800 plane heading from Rio de Janeiro Airport RJ Santos Dumont to Congonhas-Sao Paulo Airport, Brazil, was diverted after the crew needed to shut down one of the engines.
The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained safe.

By nightfall tonight, 34 bodies have been recovered.
Investigative crews sort through baby sandals, and airplane parts drifting ashore. People are questioning why the flight was not delayed due to the storm raging at the time of takeoff.
The USS-Ramage, and US P-3 surveillance aircraft are helping with search and rescue efforts.
The plane was last serviced on Dec. 25.
Reports abound that the plane was seen to be on fire on its way down. If reports of an engine fire proved to be correct, it would have been difficult to handle at such a low altitude; but reports of a lighting strike, compounded by poor visibility and high winds compounded by a bird strike are equally as possible.

What: American Airlines Boeing 777-200 en route from Dallas to Tokyo Where: 43 miles southeast of Narita over the Pacific When: Monday Oct 26 3:40 p.m. Who: 228 people aboard Why: As heavy weather ( Typhoon Lupit’s rain and strong winds) approach Japan’s east coast, the Japanese weather service announced a weather warning.
Several (5 passengers) aboard the Tokyo jet were injured by turbulence. After landing, all 5 were taken to a Tokyo area hospital.

What: Qantas Boeing 747-400 en route from Singapore to Melbourne Where: Singapore When: Dec 17th 2009 Who: 354 passengers and 19 crew Why: While en route, the outer right engine surged. Passengers reported bangs and vibration, and flames.
The crew shut down the engine and returned to Singapore on the remaining 3 engines, where they made a safe landing.
The flight was delayed for a day. It is not reported if this plane completed the route or if an alternative plane was used.
