Why: On arrival to Detroit, a passenger locked himself in the bathroom and became verbally abusive. The flight crew notified law enforcement.
The passenger was a Nigerian citizen (originating in Lagos) via Amsterdam without checked luggage, similar to the Northwest incident on December 25.

Why: After takeoff, the pilots heard a noise (bird strike) before they lost an engine. They dumped fuel and returned to the airport where they landed safely with no injuries.
We say the flight “lost an engine,” but it was significantly more dramatic than that, with the engine catching fire. Fortunately they landed safely.
Malindo Air flight OD-163 had to return and make an emergency landing in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on June 27th.

SunExpress Airlines flight EW-1216 had to make an emergency landing in Stockholm, Sweden, on January 9th.
The Boeing 737-800 plane flying from Dusseldorf, Germany, was on approach to Stockholm when the crew reported a flaps issue and aborted approach.
The plane subsequently made a second approach and landed safely at a higher than normal speed. All 168 people aboard remained unharmed.
