When: December 7, 2008
Who: pilot Gary Smith
Why: Smith had engine trouble; and tried to land in an open field but clipped power lines, flipped and came down about 80 feet from the road. Smith was trapped in his plane until found by utility workers from Peace River Electric Cooperative investigating a power outage found him. Smith is in stable condition and hospitalized Florida Hospital in Wauchula

What: Allied Air Boeing 727 en route from Lagos Nigeria to Accra
Where: Kotoka Airport, Hajj Village, Ghana
When: June 2, 2012 7 pm
Who: 10 fatalities, 4 survivors
Why: Flight DHV 111 was flying from Lagos when it touched down halfway down the runway in Accra and failed to stop at the end.

ATC may have advised pilots to divert to Abidjan because of the weather.
Police, military and fire as well as the coordinator of National Disaster Management Organisation were on the scene.
The plane was considered totaled, with wing damage, separated tail and collapsed gear. The plane reportedly was Pan Am’s last revenue flight Dec 4, 1991.
Cessna Crashed in Brazil; 2 Killed, 2 Injured
A single-engine Cessna 177 crashed in Curitiba, a city in southern Brazil, on August 30.The aircraft was heading to the city of Londrina when it developed some engine problem and crashed in a residential area.
Two of the four people aboard died on the spot, one suffered serious injuries while the fourth person survived with minor injuries.
The injured were taken to a local hospital. No one on the ground suffered any loss.
The cause of crash is not clear at the moment.
Agricultural Embraer Crashes in Brazil

On January 5, 2013, a privately owned Embraer EMB Ipanema with only the pilot aboard was making an agricultural pass and spraying crops in Lucas do Rio Verde MT Brazil.While cropdusting, the plane collided with a highway sign and the pilot lost control. Engine problems may have also been involved.
THe pilot’s plane struck a pole then impacted the field of soybeans, instantly killing the pilot, Rubens Fritsch. The plane is a total loss. (See photo)
His body was recovered by the firefighters who responded to the call at 11:00 a.m. Saturday.
The married pilot leaves no children. He was buried in Lucas do Rio Verde.
MH17: Remains of Victims Flown to Netherlands
Six more coffins containing the remains of victims of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 were flown to the Netherlands, through a Dutch Air Force transport plane, on November 28.The plane carrying 298 people was heading from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur when it was presumably shot by a surface-to-air missile fired from a rebel-occupied area of Donetsk region, Ukraine, on July 17th this year. All passengers, including 196 Dutch citizens, were killed in the crash.
A farewell ceremony was held at the runway of Kharkiv International Airport, Ukraine, before the plane departed. The ceremony was attended by Kharkiv governor Igor Baluta, Dutch Security and Justice Minister Ivo Opstelten as well as the officials of the international investigation team and Ukrainian police.
The plane was received by several high level officials, including the Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, at the Eindhoven airbase in Netherlands.
The remains were later shifted to a Hilversum-based forensic research facility for identification.
Small Plane Crashes in Alaska; Pilot and His Dog Killed
A small homemade plane clipped some trees and crashed in a street on the Anchorage Hillside, Alaska, on September 10th.
There was only the pilot and his dog aboard.
Both of them lost their lives in the crash.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
1946 Single-Engine Ercoup Crashed in Cherokee County, Okla
Two men got seriously injured in a plane crash in Cherokee County near Tenkiller Lake, about a mile north of Cookson Airfield, in the morning of April 12.The Federal Aviation Administration spokesperson said that the 1946 single-engine Ercoup experienced engine issues before it crashed. The plane was registered to Albert Demarco of Ozark, Ark.
The identities of the injured have not so far been confirmed.
According to Oklahoma Highway Patrol officials, both the passengers were shifted to a Tulsa hospital via Life Flight. They were listed in critical condition.
