    Guatamalan Rescue Chopper Crashes after Attempted Rescue

    Why: After a civilian chopper crashed, the Guatemalan air force helicopter on a regular Tuesday mission went to assist in the rescue but crashed en route. The seven officers and three air force specialists diverted from their mission “to supply some detachments are located in the Laguna del Tigre,” and died in the crash in bad weather in the mountainous area. It appears that when the military chopper reached the scene of the first crash, the rescue had already been handled, so they elected to continue on their mission, and it was on the continuation of the journey to Peten that the accident occurred.

    According to eyewitnesses, the helicopter lost power near the village of Quebrada Seca, in the vicinity of the town of San Luis.

    Three were crew—two lieutenants and a specialist—and the seven passengers were a flight lieutenant, two second lieutenants of aviation, a second lieutenant of infantry, two specialists and an aére-military policeman.     Pilot Lieutenant Everaldo Portillo had more than 700 flight hours.

    The first chopper apparently hit power lines which apparently helped break the fall. It crashed in the El Guarumo in Semox village on Guatemala’s Caribbean coast ( Livingston, Izabal). Three injured survivors of the original crash were taken to del Hospital Roosevelt in Morales, Izabal. The survivors of the first crash were listed as Carlos Larios Aguilar, 48, the pilot of the ship John Paul Moran, 52, and mechanic Jose Gomez, 28. The first chopper was #TG-SAN, also out of Petén.

    Pilot Injured After Small Plane Crashed in Burke County, NC

    A small plane crashed in Burke County, North Carolina, on February 6th.

    The plane caught fire after it went down on Jamestown Road, Morganton.

    The pilot, who was the only one aboard, suffered non-life threatening injuries.

    The cause of crash is being investigated.

    Malaysia Moves Ahead with Formula One Race In Spite of MH370 Crash

    Formula one racing in Malaysia will be organized as planned, despite the Prime Minister’s confirmation about Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 crashing and killing all on board.

    However, the organizers have decided to scale down the planned activities considering the somber atmosphere after the MH370 tragedy. The weekend concerts have been cancelled as “a sign of respect to the families and next-of-kin of the crew and passengers of flight MH370.” The concerts featured pop star Christina Aguilera.

    Britain’s Mirror newspaper reported that Mercedes had planned to run “Come Home MH370” signage on all its W05 cars during the Grand Prix weekend. However, DPA news agency reports that Mercedes will now run the words “Tribute to MH370” on the cars at Sepang.

    Sepang circuit boss Razlan Razali said that the F1 race was planned a long time ago, and it cannot be cancelled, despite pressure from various sides.

    Military Chopper Crashes during exercises

    What: USMC HMLA-469 Bell AH-1W Super Cobra
    Where: Yuma, AZ
    When: Feb 22, 2012, 8 pm
    Who: 2 aboard, 2 fatalities
    Why: The helicopter was engaged in night flight exercises on February 22nd near Yuma, AZ when it collided with another flight. Service members with the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing were involved.

    The crash happened west of the Chocolate Mountains in California.

    The names of the two fatalities have not been released.

    Homebuilt Crashes Football Game; Two Fatalities

    What: Fixed Wing Single-Engine Steen Skybolt (Cooper Skybolt) bi-plane en route from West Harrison Airport (Cincinnati West)
    Where: McNicholas High School in Harrison Ohio
    When: Aug 21, 2009 8:08 p.m.
    Who: pilot and a female passenger
    Why: Witnesses watching a football scrimmage between Harrison and McNicholas High School say that while en route, the plane climbed, pitched left, seemed to struggle, then took a nosedive, crashing near the high school and killing 47 year old pilot Raymond Robben of Guilford, Indiana, and passenger 52 year old Belinda Roy of Lawrenceburg, Indiana. The pilot and his girlfriend were on a pleasure ride when the plane failed, crashing a quarter of a mile from the end of the runway.

    Robben was a corporate pilot for the JTM Food Group.

    FAA registration lists the biplane as being manufactured in 1996, classified an amateur built experimental aircraft and Robben is listed as as a certified commercial pilot and flight instructor.
