Family Lost in Brussels Cessna Crash


Traffic was locked down at Brussels South Charleroi airport.

On Feb 9, 2013 at ten a.mm, a privately owned Cessna P210N Pressurized Centurion en route from Brussels to Lyon was taking off from Brussels South Charleroi Airport in Belgium in freezing fog when it ran into trouble.

The plane crashed beside the runway. A family of five, including three children, were aboard: a grandfather, his daughter, her three children age seven, six and two.

Police and a special crisis unit arrived on the scene.

Walloon Prime Minister Rudy Demotte (PS) and federal Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo (PS) offered condolences to the families of the victims.

    Small Plane Crashed at Virginia International Raceway; 2 Killed

    A World War II, T28-C single-engine plane crashed in a large field at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) in Halifax County, Virginia , at about 5 p.m. on September 19.

    The witnesses saw the plane flying low over the field before it went down.

    Two people, including the pilot and his passenger, were killed in the accident. Their identities are not yet known.

    No one was injured on the ground.

    The owner and CEO of VIR, Connie Nyholm said, “We deal with the possibility of motorsports incidents every day… Motorsport is a dangerous sport. We are fully prepared to deal with it. We have never experienced something like this.”

    The FAA and the NTSB have been informed.

    Emergency Landing on Route 67

    What: Homebuilt Europa en route from Gillespie Field
    Where: Route 67 in Santee
    When: July 21, 2012
    Who: Pilot
    Why: When his engine locked up in a turn after taking off from Gillespie Field, pilot Wayne Oehler of El Cajon made an emergency landing on to the freeway near Riverton road. A California Highway Patrol officer saw the plane in distress and flying low, and cleared the road.

    What: Cessna 500
    Where: Houston, TX
    When: November 05, 2005
    Who: pilot and passenger
    Why: The 4,100-hour commercial pilot lost directional control of the single-pilot twin-engine turbojet while taking off, and impacted the ground 3,750 feet from the point of departure. The airplane climbed to approximately 150 feet, rolled to the right, descended, and struck the ground inverted. The weather was day VFR and the wind was reported from 170 degrees at 10 knots. The wreckage revealed that none of the main-entry door latching pins were in fully locked position. The accident occurred on its first test flight out of maintenance. Neither pilot nor passenger survived.

    Small Plane Crashed onto Long Island Rail Road Tracks; 1 Killed, 1 Injured

    madridcrashA Hawker Beechcraft BE35 plane crashed onto Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) tracks at the crossing between Hicksville and Bethpage stations on Long Island, New York, on August 16.

    The plane was heading from Francis S. Gabreski Ariport, Westhampton Beach to Morristown when the pilot reported difficulty in maintaining altitude. Authorities said he was attempting to make an emergency landing at Republic Airport, Farmingdale but could not make it to there.

    The pilot was killed in the crash while his only passenger, identified as Carl Giordano, 55, of New Vernon, New Jersey, sustained injuries. He was taken to Nassau County University Medical Center.

    The FAA and the NTSB are investigating.

    Papua New Guinea Plane Crash Kills 4

    What: Australian Reef Pilots (ARP) Chartered plane
    Where: Misima Airport,Milne Bay Province Papua New Guinea
    When: Aug 31, 2010
    Who: 5 aboard, 4 fatalities (THREE Australians and one New Zealander)
    Why: The weather had been wet and windy all day—after landing, the plane skidded into some trees off the edge of the runway, and burst into flames. The pilot is in critical condition.
