Why: While en route, the plane developed an engine problem and shut down one of its engines. The flight diverted to Mumbai where it landed safely.

What: Delta Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-88 en route from Hartford,CT to Atlanta,GA
Where: Bradley International Airport, Hartford
When: Nov 10 2010, 8:00 am
Why: The Delta flight was on the runway and aborted the takeoff. While on the runway, the plane experienced problems with the left engine and was able to taxi to the terminal under its own steam.
Passengers were rebooked.
The specific problem with the engine has not been made public.

What: Air Canada Boeing 767-300 en route from Calgary to Kahului
Where: Vancouver
When: Jan 22nd 2010
Why: While en route, the crew detected a hydraulics leak. The flight made an emergency landing in Vancouver.
Thomson Airways flight BY-108 had to reject takeoff from Manchester, England, on April 16th.
The Boeing 787-800 plane was accelerating to takeoff for Bridgetown, Barbados, when the crew noticed some problem and rejected takeoff at high speed.
The plane safely returned to the apron. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
Ryanair flight FR-9525 was intercepted by Belgian fighter aircraft over Netherlands, on February 10th.
The aircraft were dispatched after the Boeing 737-800 plane, heading from Lublin, Poland, to London Stansted Airport, England, lost contact with the ATC.
The communication was subsequently re-established, and the fighter jets returned to their bases.
The flight continued to London Stansted Airport.

What: Yemenia Airbus A330-200 en route from Djibouti to Moroni Comoros
Air Austral Boeing 777-200 en route from Lyon to Saint Denis
Where: Moroni, Comoros
When: Aug 24 2010
Who: 350 passengers aboard the Boeing
Why: Both flights were in the air, the Airbus flying at a higher altitude. The Airbus unexpectedly descended without ATC clearance.
The Boeing received a TCAS resolution advisory, to which they immediately responded, averting a collision.
I am reminded of the sad and tragic events of June 30, 2009, when Air Yemenia failed to make a safe landing and killed everyone aboard but Bahia Bakari.
Confusion again reigns in Moroni, Comoros airspace. I am grateful for the successful TCAS resolution/response. Apologies if the date is in error, as we find different dates published for this averted catastrophe.
