    Allegiant Air Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Alabama

    Allegiant Air Flight 872 made an emergency landing in Birmingham, Alabama, on February 12.

    The plane took off from St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport, Florida, and was en-route to Eppley Airfield in Omaha, Nebraska, when the crew reported an electrical odor in the cabin and requested an emergency landing.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All 153 passengers and 6 crew members remained safe.

    The plane was taken for inspection.

    Medical Helicopter Crashes in Arizona; 2 Killed, 1 Injured

    A medical helicopter crashed near Apache Junction, Arizona, on December 15.

    The helicopter, operated by Air Methods, was flying from Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport to Globe when it went down.

    There were three crew members aboard at the time; two of them were killed. The deceased were identified as the pilot David Schneider, 51, of Gilbert, and flight nurse Chad Frary, 38, of Mesa.

    The third crew member, identified as the paramedic Derek Boehm, 38, of Gilbert, was critically injured.

    The FAA and the NTSB are investigating.

    Aerolineas Argentinas Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Buenos Aires

    Aerolineas ArgentinasAerolineas Argentinas flight AR-1300 had to return and make an emergency landing in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on October 27th.

    The Airbus A330-200 plane took off for John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, but had to return shortly afterwards after flames were seen emitting from the left engine along with loud bangs.

    The plane landed uneventfully. Everyone aboard remained safe.

    The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

    Air Blue Black Box Recovered

    A six member committee will be investigating the crash of the Air Blue Airbus flight ED-202. 152 people on board the Airbus A321 aircraft were killed when it slammed into a hill on July 28. The black box and cockpit voice recorder which was in the tail of the plane was recovered in the wooded Margalla hills after a three day search by twenty rescuers who had been hampered by heavy rain and inaccessibility. Major accidents are investigated jointly by the international aviation community; and the box appears to be in adequate condition, soon to be decoded in either France or Germany.

    The box holds crucial details which will help determine the cause of the crash, and will be examined by international experts.

    Pilot Pervez Iqbal Chaudhry was 61 years old, and suffering from diabetes and hypertension, and possibly suffering fatigue if he had observed prayers of the holy day preceding the crash.

    Cape Air Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Adirondack Regional Airport

    Cape Air flight 1815 made an emergency landing at Adirondack Regional Airport in Franklin County, New York, on August 25th.

    The Cessna 402 plane heading from Albany International Airport to Ogdensburg Regional Airport, New York, was diverted after the crew noticed an engine issue and a whiff of smoke in the cabin.

    The plane landed safely. All five passengers aboard remained unharmed.

    UA Diverts to New Orleans

    What: United Airlines 787 Dreamliner en route from Houston to Newark
    Where: New Orleans
    When: December 4, 2012
    Who: 184 aboard
    Why: The Houston to Newark UA Dreamliner flight was over the Mississippi River, forty minutes after takeoff when it had to divert and make an emergency landing in New Orleans. The plane received “multiple flight-system error messages.” Flight 1146 landed safely at at 9:25 a.m. and without incident, with 174 passengers and 10 crew.

    Emergency services was on standby. Passengers disembarked without incident and were provided an alternative flight to Newark.

    An undisclosed mechanical issue was at fault.
