    Paris: Airbus Catches Fire on Runway

    What: Vueling Airbus A320-200 en route from Paris Orly Airport to Alicante Spain
    Where: Paris
    When: Aug 5th 2009 10h36
    Who: 169 passengers
    Why: After boarding but prior to takeoff, the Airbus’s right engine caught on fire. The official statement said that “the fire began when the aircraft was in “pushback” phase, the taxi procedure for towing the aircraft from loading up by a bar connected to a tractor trailer.”

    Passengers debarked via slides. There were eight injuries reported; it was not released if the injuries were caused by the fire emergency or the slides, nor if those injured were passengers or crew.

    Four and a half hours later, passengers were provided an alternative Airbus to take them to their destination.

    Taban Air Flight Returns to Tehran due to Engine Issue

    Taban Air flight I3-5680 had to return and make an emergency landing in Tehran, Iran, on December 17th.

    The plane took off for Urmia, Iran, but had to turn back after the crew needed to shut down one of the engines.

    The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    LATAM Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Argentina

    LATAM flight LA-7732 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Ministro Pistarini International Airport, Argentina, on March 9th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane heading from Aeroparque Jorge Newbery to Comandante Armando Tola International Airport, Argentina, was diverted after the crew noticed smoke in the cockpit.

    The plane landed safely. All one hundred sixty-seven passengers and six crew members remained unharmed.

    All Nippon Airways Plane Diverts to Russia after Engine Problem

    ANA All Nippon Airways flight NH-209 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Bratsk Airport, Bratsk, Russia, on May 12th.

    The Boeing 787-900 flying from Tokyo, Japan, to Dusseldorf, Germany, had to divert due to problems with its left engine.

    The plane landed safely.

    No injuries were reported.

    Military Chopper Crashes during exercises

    What: USMC HMLA-469 Bell AH-1W Super Cobra
    Where: Yuma, AZ
    When: Feb 22, 2012, 8 pm
    Who: 2 aboard, 2 fatalities
    Why: The helicopter was engaged in night flight exercises on February 22nd near Yuma, AZ when it collided with another flight. Service members with the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing were involved.

    The crash happened west of the Chocolate Mountains in California.

    The names of the two fatalities have not been released.

    American Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Raleigh–Durham International Airport

    American Airlines flight AA-5562 made an emergency landing at Raleigh–Durham International Airport, North Carolina, on January 4th.

    The plane heading from Birmingham, Alabama, to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Virginia, was diverted due to a fuel balance issue.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
