Delta Airlines flight DL-685 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Daytona Beach, Florida, on July 10th.
The Airbus A320-200 plane flying from Atlanta, Georgia, to Port au Prince, Haiti, was diverted after a hail strike cracked the windshield.
The plane landed uneventfully. All one hundred and thirty-two people aboard remained safe.

Why: While en route, the pilot of the JetBlue Airbus suffered a panic attack. He was locked out of the cockpit and restrained, and another JetBlue pilot who was aboard assisted the first officer in the cockpit as they diverted to Amarillo and made a safe landing.
The pilot had walked to the back of the plane, and when he returned to the cockpit and found he was locked out, he began yelling “Let me in” and raving about a bomb.
After landing in Amarillo, the captain was taken off the plane into an ambulance that sat on the tarmac for thirty minutes before he was taken to an Amarillo hospital.
“Flight 191 departed New York’s JFK airport at 7:28 am ET (was scheduled to depart 6:55 am ET). At roughly 10 am CT/11 am ET, the pilot in command elected to divert to Amarillo, TX for a medical situation involving the Captain. Another Captain, traveling off duty, entered the flight deck prior to landing at Amarillo, and took over the duties of the ill crewmember once on the ground. The aircraft arrived Amarillo at 10:11 am CT, and the crewmember was removed from the aircraft and taken to a local medical facility. Customers remain on board at this time. JetBlue is working with local authorities and airport officials for the safe deplaning of the aircraft and will send a new aircraft to continue the flight to LAS.” |
Qantas Airways flight QF-9 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Muscat, Oman, on March 25th.
The Airbus A380-800 plane en-route from Melbourne, Australia, to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, was diverted due to bad weather conditions in Dubai.
As the plane was on approach to Muscat, it was hit by a bird. The crew continued for a safe landing.
Everyone aboard remained unharmed.
A Metro Aviation / Life Air Rescue Eurocopter EC-135P-1 was on a test flight with the pilot and two mechanic aboard when it crashed in a field behind Metro Aviation. All three aboard were injured, and hospitalized at Willis-Knighton Hospital.
There was fuel on the ground, so emergency responders followed hazmat protocol. The accident was close to Shreveport Downtown Airport in a field at Hawn and North Thomas Avenue.
The leased EC135 experienced mechanical problems and was in for maintenance..
The affected helicopter has no history of problems, and has current certification. The cause of the incident has not yet been determined or released.

What: US Airways/PSA Airlines Canadair CRJ-200 en route from Washington to Nashville

Who: 14 passengers and three crew
Why: While en route, the windshield cracked. The flight diverted to Charlotte and made a safe landing. Passengers took an alternative flight, arriving three hours later.

What: United Airlines Boeing 757-200 en route from Washington DC to San Francisco,CA

Why: Before taking off, while still at the airport on ramp for departure, the plane developed immediate problems.
Smoke was reported coming from the right engine. Pilots stopped, the emergency slides were deployed, and passengers, three of whom were injured on the slides, evacuated from the plane.
Emergency services were on standby. On inspection, no fire was found.
Twenty-Eight passengers were injured after a landing gear problem in IndiGo flight 6E-176 from Mumbai caused thick smoke emission on landing in New Delhi, India, and prompted an emergency evacuation on August 20.
Air Traffic Control (ATC) observed “dense smoke” coming out of the left-side lower portion of the Airbus A-320 after it landed at IGI Airport at about 3:30 p.m.then alerted the pilots and emergency services at the airport. All 154 people aboard the plane were evacuated using emergency slide-chutes.
Twenty-eight of 148 passengers suffered minor injuries during the slide evacuation, while the 6 crew members escaped unhurt.
Aviation regulator DGCA and the airline have initiated investigations. Preliminary investigations revealed that a heavy friction on the left brake assembly of the landing gear caused the smoke.
