    Delta/Skywest Makes Safe Landing on one set of Landing Gear

    Why: On approach to the airport, the landing gear developed problems.

    The plane made a safe landing at 10 pm Monday night on one set of landing gear. Passengers were bussed to the terminal. Once passenger was hospitalized.

    According to news crews covering the incident, the plane looked tilted on the runway. The airport was closed for two hours after the landing.

    Hoax Alarms Oakland Passengers

    What: Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 en route from Seattle to Oakland
    Where: Oakland
    When: Sept 19, 2011
    Who: 126 passengers, 6 crew
    Why: While passengers were winging it from Seattle, a handwritten bomb threat note threatening the Oakland flight was found in an airport bookstore in San Francisco International Airport.

    The flight landed at Oakland as planned—twenty minutes early, due to some background aviation networking. The fake crisis brought in some real FBI agents and real bomb sniffing dogs who got everyone out of the plane (and screened); and the plane was sent to an isolated location to (fortunately, not) blow up. No bomb was found.

    A false report or threat of a bomb or harmful device is punishable by up to four years in prison, a $2,000 fine plus reimbursement of costs to government.

    Jetstar Plane Makes Emergency Landing at RAAF Base Williamtown

    JetstarJetstar flight JQ 413 had to make an emergency landing at the Royal Australian Air Force base in Williamtown, New South Wales, Australia, on the afternoon of June 22.

    The pilot declared emergency after the crew reported a bizarre smell in the aircraft’s cabin. The flight was en-route from Gold Coast, Queensland to Sydney at the time.

    All 190 passengers aboard remained unharmed and were taken to Sydney by buses.

    The plane was taken for inspection. Authorities believe it was cigarette smoke coming out of toilet.

    Airbus Lands Without Nose Gear Steering in Kansas City

    What: US Airways Airbus A320-200 en route from Phoenix, to Chicago
    Where: Kansas City
    When: Oct 7 2010 5:15 p.m
    Who: 150 aboard
    Why: While en route, the plane’s nose gear became inoperable. The crew diverted to Kansas City where they made a safe landing due to hydraulic problems. Without nose gear steering, the plane had to be towed to the gate.

    Passengers were provided an alternative flight.

    Horizon Air Flight Returns to Spokane due to Landing Gear Issue

    Horizon AirHorizon Air flight QX-327 had to return and make an emergency landing in Spokane, Washington, on September 19th.

    The plane took off for Seattle, Washington, but had to return shortly afterwards due to an issue with the landing gear.

    The plane landed safely. All 73 people aboard remained safe.

    Delhi-Bound GoAir Plane Hit by Lightning

    GoAirGoAir flight G8-102 made an emergency landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, India, on July 9th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane, flying from Kolkata, declared an emergency after lightning struck it causing the windshield to crack.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All 180 passengers remained safe.
