    What: Thomas Cook Scandinavia Airbus A330-300 en route from Stockholm Sweden to Antalya Turkey
    Where: Arlanda
    When: Aug 17 2010
    Who: 409 passengers and 14 crew
    Why: According to Susanne Rundström of the airport’s press office, shortly after take-off, the plane was twenty miles from the airport when it was struck by lightning. The pilots made a “mayday” call.

    The flight returned to Arlanda and made a safe landing. At the airport, the plane was submitted to a routine inspection and pronounced airworthy to fly on the 18th.

    SriLankan Airlines Plane Returns to Bangkok due to Smoke in Cabin

    Srilankan airlinesSriLankan Airlines flight UL-891 had to return and make an emergency landing in Bangkok, Thailand, on April 7th.

    The plane took off for Colombo, Sri Lanka, but had to return shortly afterwards after the crew reported smoke in the cabin.

    The Airbus A330-200 plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unhurt.

    Germania Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Turkey

    Germania Airlines flight ST-6334 had to divert for an emergency landing in Dalaman, Turkey, on January 10th.

    The plane flying from Erfurt, Germany, was on approach to Antalya, Turkey, it was struck by lightning and began experiencing turbulence.

    The crew aborted approach and diverted to Dalaman where the plane landed safely.

    All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Cebu Pacific Airbus makes Hard Landing in Philippines

    Cebu PacificCebu Pacific flight 5J-629 made a hard landing at Sibulan Airport/ Dumaguete Airport, Sibulan, Philippines, on April 26.

    The Airbus A320-200, flying from Manila, Philippines, was mid-air when the crew noticed a hydraulic leak in one of its main gears. There were also found some leaves and branches in the gear.

    The plane landed safely.

    No one was injured.

    Ryanair Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Germany

    Ryanair flight FR-408 made an emergency landing in Cologne, Germany, on January 21st.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane flying from Copenhagen, Denmark, was on approach to Cologne when the crew declared an emergency due to a flaps issue.

    The plane landed safely. All 131 people aboard remained unharmed.

    Detroit-Bound Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Syracuse

    ExpressJetExpressJet flight 5166, operating as Delta Connection, made an emergency landing at Syracuse Hancock International Airport, New York, on February 19.

    The plane took off from Burlington International Airport, Vermont, and was heading to Detroit, Michigan, when the crew noticed a mechanical issue and decided to divert.

    The plane landed safely. All 49 people aboard remained unhurt.

    The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.
