Why: On take-off (most likely) one of the jet’s tires blew out. Prior to landing, the flight verified that a tire was flat. The emergency landing was safe, with rescue standing by.

Why: A smoke alarm sounded in the jet’s lavatory, instigating the emergency landing.
Austrian Airlines flight OS-769 made an emergency landing in Belgrade, Serbia, on November 6th.
The plane flying from Vienna, Austria, to Pristina, Kosovo, was diverted after the crew reported vibrations in one of the engines.
The plane landed safely. There were 79 passengers aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.
United Airlines flight 4343 made an emergency landing at McGhee Tyson Airport in Blount County, Tennessee, on April 27th.
The plane heading from Knoxville, Tennessee, to Washington Dulles International Airport, Virginia, was diverted after an indicator light came on in the cockpit.
The plane landed uneventfully. Everyone aboard remained safe.
A Canadian turboprop Dash 7 jet, carrying former President Bill Clinton, had to make an unscheduled landing in Dodoma, Tanzania on April 29.
The plane was en-route from Iranga to Lake Manyara when one of its four engines malfunctioned. The pilot then had to land near Dodoma fueling station where the engine was repaired.
The aircraft took off again shortly afterwards and safely landed at its scheduled destination.

Jet2 flight LS-612 made an emergency landing in Rennes, France, on September 25th.
The Boeing 737-300 plane heading from Girona, Spain, to East Midlands Airport, England, was diverted after one of the pilots became unwell.

What: United Express Embraer 175 en route from Pittsburgh to Denver
Where: Quad-Cities International Airport,
When: Thursday, June 4 9:05 a.m.
Who: Sixty-seven passengers and four crew (2 flight attendants, a pilot and co-pilot.)
Why: When smoke filled the cabin, and there were electrical problems, the flight diverted to Quad City International Airport in Moline. Emergency slides were not used, and there were no injuries.
It took under ten minutes from the perception of the emergency to the safe landing.

After a tragedy like the Air France Airbus, each safe landing after an emergency reminds of what a blessing a safe homecoming is.
