    Houston-Bound United Airlines Flight Hits Turbulence; 10 Injured

    United Airlines flight UA-1031 encountered turbulence on the way to Houston, Texas, on June 20th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane was flying from Panama City, Panama, when it hit turbulence that injured nine passengers and one crew member.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. The injured were taken to hospitals.

    Brazilian Air Force Jet Engine Catches Fire


    On May 26, 2013, a FAB Força Aérea Brasileira Boeing KC-137 (707-324C) developed problems during takeoff from the airport in Port au Prince, Haiti, bound for Manaus. The flight was making a takeoff run when its engine caught on fire.

    The plane veered off the runway, with the landing gear broken off.

    Twelve crew and 131 passengers were bound for a peacekeeping mission in Haiti. No one was injured.

    The official statement came from Air Brigadier Kanitz Marcelo Damasceno, Head of the Center of Social Communication of Aeronautics

    What: TAM Linhas Aereas Airbus A320-200 en route from Brasilia to Sao Paulo
    Where: Sao Paulo
    When: June 24 2010
    Who: 171 people on board
    Why: On approach to Congonhas, the pilot was notified of a flight leaving Congonhas, and had to maneuver according to ATC direction, then continued on to land at Congonhas. Meanwhile, one of the flight attendants landed on a passenger. No one was injured in either event.

    The plane causing the evasive maneuver was an Embraer EMB-110 Bandeirante.

    UA Boeing Cautionary Landing in Sioux Falls

    What: United Airlines Boeing 757-200 en route from Washington to Seattle
    Where: Sioux Falls
    When: Apr 14, 2010
    Who: 166 passengers
    Why: While en route, the crew smelled smoke in the cabin.

    Passengers complained of burning eyes. The crew elected to divert to Sioux Falls where they made a safe cautionary landing.

    A replacement flight was provided, with passengers reaching their destination with only a four hour delay.

    Jet Blue Emergency Landing in Fort Lauderdale

    What: Jetblue Embraer ERJ-190 en route from Fort Lauderdale to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
    Where: Fort Lauderdale
    When: Aug 29th 2011
    Why: After takeoff, the plane lost cabin pressure.

    Although they did not declare emergency, the crew did alert ATC, and descended to a safe altitude before returning to the Fort Lauderdale airport.

    Passengers were provided an alternative flight with an alternative jet flown in.

    United Airlines Flight Rejects Takeoff After Bird Strike

    United Airlines flight UA-209 had to reject takeoff from San Francisco, California, on November 22nd.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane was accelerating to takeoff for Seattle, Washington, when the crew rejected takeoff reporting a bird strike.

    The plane safely returned to the apron.

    All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
