    Hawaiian Airlines Plane Returns to Kahului Airport

    Hawaiian AirlinesHawaiian Airlines flight 24 had to return and make an emergency landing at Kahului airport, Hawaii, on May 1.

    Authorities said the plane took off for Oakland, California but returned half an hour later due to odor of fumes onboard.

    The plane, carrying 224 passengers, landed uneventfully. The passengers were evacuated via emergency slides.

    The airline confirmed that 2 people were shifted to hospital with minor injuries.

    Turbulence Sends Flight to Lake Charles with Injured Flight Crew

    What: United Airlines Boeing 737-700 en route from Houston to New York
    Where: Lake Charles Regional Airport
    When: June 12, 2012 9 pm
    Who: 88 passengers 3 injured
    Why: While flight attendants were about to serve drinks when the flight encountered severe turbulence that slammed them into the ceiling of the plane, then the floor.

    Three members of the flight crew were injured during the flight, one of them seriously.

    Pilots diverted to Lake Charles Regional Airport where the injured were taken to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.

    They really have to come up with science that sees all upcoming turbulence, so the plane can avoid it before something really bad happens.

    Smoke in the Cockpit Diverts Allegiant to Vegas

    What: Allegiant Air MD-83 en route from Los Angeles to Grand Junction
    Where: McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas
    When: 2:22 p.m May 18, 2009
    Who: 130 passengers and 5 crew members
    Why: After reporting smoke in the cockpit, the crew diverted to the Las Vegas airport. There were no injuries. The replacement flight is not expected to arrive in Grand Junction until after 6 pm.

    Microlight Trike Injures Two in Wyalong


    What: Microlight
    Where: West Wyalong Australia
    When: May 18 2012
    Who: 2 aboard, 0 fatalities
    Why: Two men were aboard a trike style microlight which crashed in a paddock south of West Wyalong. A 35-year-old local man with pelvis and spinal injuries was airlifted to Canberra Hospital. A 27 year old man had lacerated leg injuries.

    Police established a crime scene at the Wargin Road location but ATSB is not investigating.

    Singapore Airlines “big badda bang” causes Cautionary Landing in Indonesia

    What: Singapore Airlines Airbus A330-300 en route from Adelaideto Singapore
    Where: Denpasar Indonesia
    When: May 10th 2010
    Why: While en route, the engine made a banging noise. The pilot shut down the affected engine, and tge flight immediately diverted to Denpasar where they made a safe landing.

    No mention is made of how (or whether) the passengers got where they were going, nor of what exactly happened to the plane. (Does a plane make a banging noise when it blows a gasket?)
