    Tragic Crash of Free Club Flight

    What: Aeroclub “Aviaservice” Yakovlev Yak-18T
    Where: Katunino, Russia
    When: Sept 1, 2012
    Who: 4 aboard, 4 fatalities
    Why: At 4.45 pm Moscow time, the light Yak-18 crashed in the Russian village of Katunino. There were four aboard the plane at the time of the crash.

    The plane crashed 300 meters from the runway and caught fire. Firefighters, rescue workers, a team of SMP, the police, the prosecutor’s office were on the scene.

    The club holds trials free flights for everyone. This had been one of those free flights. It was the first time 28-year-old businessman Andrei Ershov had ever flown and according to Andrei’s ex-wife, he had been excited over it, and had persuaded his friend Kolodeshnikov Denis to join him.

    Sergei Piganov, 54, pilot,
    Korotkov Olga, 29 years old,
    Andrei Ershov, 28,
    Kolodeshnikov Denis, 29 years.

    Libyan Fighter Jet Crashed in Tobruk; 3 Killed, 9 Injured

    Plane crashA MiG-21 Fighter Jet belonging to Libya’s air force turned upside down and crashed in the Libyan city of Tobruk on September 2.

    The plane went out of control and crashed, in a residential area, during a military event which was held to honour the pilot of another plane that crashed last week in Bayda city.

    Three people, including the pilot, died in the crash while 9 others were injured.

    According to security officials, the plane crashed due to hydraulic system failure.

    Southwest Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Ohio

    southwest_airlines_logoThe Southwest Airlines flight 424, from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport to Chicago Midway International Airport, had to divert and land in emergency at Port Columbus International Airport, Ohio, at 2 a.m. Central Time on July 23.

    The pilot decided to make an emergency landing after there was an indication of smoke in the forward cargo hold.

    The plane landed safely and slides were used to evacuate the 49 passengers on board. No one was hurt.

    The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating. Southwest Airlines has declared the plane out of service for inspection.

    An alternate was flight arranged for taking the passengers to their destination.

    Malaysia Airlines Engine Fails over Kuala Lumur

    What: Malaysia Airlines Boeing 747-400 en route from Kuala Lumpur to London
    Where: Kuala Lumpur
    When: Apr 17th 2012
    Who: 351 passengers, 21 crew
    Why: After taking off from Kuala Lumpur, the engine exploded.

    Or at least that’s what passengers felt when they heard a backfire or some other kind of explosion from one engine, and saw sparks and flames.

    Pilots dumped fuel and returned to Kuala Lumpur where they made a safe landing.

    A replacement jet was provided.

    Mooney aircraft makes Emergency Landing in Sheboygan County Farm

    A Mooney aircraft had to make an emergency landing in a farm field along County Highway A, in Wilson, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, on the morning of June 21.

    The pilot, from Cleveland, Wisconsin, decided to land the plane in emergency after its engine lost power.

    No injuries were reported.

    The FAA is investigating.

    Texas Utility Helicopter Crashes with 1 Fatality

    What: Brim Equipment Leasing Inc Hughes 369D
    Where: Childress, TX
    When: Nov 27, 2012, 4:05 p.m.
    Who: 2 aboard, 1 fatality
    Why: While hovering above ground, the aircraft was holding a passenger suspended fifty feet below. THe passenger was working on a power line a hundred feet above ground.

    The helicopter lost power and fell. Pilot Keith Hard was sustained back injuries in the crash and was hospitalized at Childress Regional Medical Canter. Jonathan David Suhr was working on the power line and impacted the ground when the helicopter fell. Suhr was taken to Childress Regional Medical Center where he died.

    The NTSB is investigating.
