    JetBlue Flight Returns to Long Beach Airport

    jetBlueJetBlue flight 1416 had to return and make an emergency landing at Long Beach Airport, California, at about 9:30 a.m. on September 18.

    According to airport spokesperson, Kerry Gerot, the plane, heading to Austin, Texas, was diverted for landing back after its second engine got overheated and the pilot reported smoke in the cockpit.

    The Airbus A320 landed uneventfully and all 142 passengers and 5 crew members exited through emergency slides.

    According to local fire department officials, 4 passengers suffered from medical issues and one of them was shifted to hospital with complaint of shortness of breath.

    Actor Jackson Rathbone was also aboard the flight along with his wife and son. He tweeted “I grabbed my son and jumped down the inflated ramp, my wife following… We left all our personal effects onboard. Who cares. We were alive.”

    Injured Flight Attendent Delays Plane

    What: US Airways flight en route to Philadelphia
    Where: Columbus Ohio
    When: February 25 2011, 3:30 pm
    Who: not available
    Why: A flight attendant injured boarding was further injured when the flight encountered turbulence. The flight diverted to Port Columbus and made a safe landing where the fight attendant was seen by paramedics and transported to Grant Medical Center. US Airways has no base of operations in Port Columbus; and passengers endured a lengthy wait aboard the plane as USAirways searched for a replacement flight attendant. The flight resumed at 5:15 after a replacement attendant was found .

    Cessna in the Drink in Roanoke

    What: Colnan Inc. Cessna 550 Citation II
    Where: Manteo-Dare County Regional Airport, NC
    When: Oct 1 2010 8:30 am
    Who: 2 crew 5 passengers
    Why: The plane flew successfully from Tampa to Manteo, but on landing, was too fast to stop on the rain-slick runway, but overran the end into the Croatan Sound off of Roanoke Island.

    Dare County Regional Airport staff rescued all passengers and crew from the sound. No fatalities. The plane has been recovered, but as you see on the video, is probably a total loss.

    UPS Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Louisville

    UPS flight 5X-605 made an emergency landing in Louisville, Kentucky, on November 27th.

    The Airbus A300-600 freighter plane took off from Chicago, Illinois, but the crew failed to retract the landing gear.

    The crew continued to Louisville where they requested the longest runway. The plane subsequently landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    MH17 Tragedy: US to Support Malaysia’s Resolution in ICAO Council

    Malaysia’s Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai has visited the U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx in Washington DC on October 24.

    In a statement released after the meeting, Liow thanked the US Government for supporting Malaysia in the aftermath of MH370 and MH17 tragedies. He announced that the US has promised to support a resolution to be put forward by Malaysia to the ICAO Council in the wake of MH17 disaster.

    “Specifically the ICAO Resolution strongly reaffirms the need for all states to comply with international law that prohibits acts of violence that pose a threat to the safety of international civil aviation and stresses the importance of all states assisting with the continuation and finalisation of a full, thorough and independent international investigation into the incident…In light of these tragedies, it is clear that the international community must collaborate closely and take greater steps towards improving safety and security in civil aviation,” he said.

    Liow will be attending the 203rd Session of the ICAO Council early next week in Montreal, Canada. Regarding the inputs to the ICAO Council, he said, “Malaysia intends to present its views and input to the ICAO Council, with a view towards seeking consensus on this matter…Among the matters I will put forward to the ICAO Council include the need to improve aircraft tracking by implementing real-time tracking as well as the need for sharing of information pertaining to flight risks.”

    Delta Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing at JFK Airport

    Delta Airlines flight DL-1894 made an emergency landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, on January 21st.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane heading from LaGuardia Airport, New York, to Boston, Massachusetts, was diverted due to a flaps problem.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
