    Airbus Emergency Landing in Seville

    What: Spanair Airbus A321-200 en route from Madrid to Las Palmas
    Where: Seville
    When: Dec 23rd 2009
    Who: 185 passengers
    Why: While en route, the Airbus developed a problem with one of its engines. Passengers heard an explosion and smelled burning oil. The crew decided to shut down the malfunctioning engine, and shut it down.

    The flight landed safely.

    A replacement jet was flown in but not all passengers opted to board the replacement flight seven hours after they arrived.

    Mitsubishi Crash under investigation

    On November 10, 2013, a Intermountain Powersports Inc Mitsubishi MU-2B-25 took off from Salina Kansas. The pilot was over the woods in Oklahoma when he contacted ATC about engine trouble just before he crashed in a field five miles north of Tulsa International Airport. The incident which occurred around 3:45 p.m. may have been the pilot’s first training flight on his recently purchased plane, though there appears to have been some training in Kansas. The plane lost an engine en route.

    The pilot died in the crash on approach to the airport. He was Perry Inhofe, an orthopedic surgeon and the son of Senator James Inhofe.

    National Transportation Safety Board investigators are investigating with FAA, Mitsubishi and Honeywell.

    Emirates Airbus Turbulence

    What: Emirates Airlines Airbus A330-200 en route from Dubai to Durban
    Where: Durban
    When: Dec 19th 2009
    Who: 20 injuries
    Why: Two hours after takeoff, the flight plunged for about ten seconds, on encountering severe turbulence which injured twenty. Trolleys, bags, passengers and flight attendants flew about and impacted the ceiling; and interior elements of the plane incurred damage (panels, wires, seating, etc…). A passenger on board was a doctor, and he treated the injuries. On landing at Durban, a dozen individuals were treated at the airport, and eight were taken to area hospitals. Injuries included a broken hand and several spinal injuries.

    Turnaround for the flight was just over 4 hours.

    Allegiant Air Plane Diverts to Fargo

    AllegiantAn Allegiant Air flight made an emergency landing at Hector International Airport in Fargo, North Dakota, on December 28.

    The plane was en-route from Orlando Sanford International Airport, Florida, to Appleton, Wisconsin, when the crew decided to divert due to a mechanical issue.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All 107 passengers and six crew members remained safe.

    The passengers were accommodated in another flight.

    Airbus Leak Instigates Emergency Landing in South Africa

    What: South African Airways Airbus A319-100 from Johannesburg en route to Port Elizabeth
    Where: OR Tambo International airport.
    When: Monday March 23
    Why: The plane returned to the airport of origin to make an emergency landing due to an oil leak which was said to be non-threatening. Prior to this event, a gauge indicated a pressure problem. The crew shut down one engine when it lost oil pressure.

    Passengers took another plane an hour and a half later.

    Moranbah Ferry Flight Makes Emergency Landing

    What: QANTAS Dash-8
    Where: Moranbah Airport
    When: Feb 9 2012, 12:30 pm
    Who: 3 crew, no passengers
    Why: While ferrying the plane, the crew made an emergency landing at Moranbah Airport after circling.

    They reported smoke in the cockpit, but on landing, no fire was found. Queensland Fire and rescue crews stood on standby during the landing. The ATSB is investigating.
