American Airlines flight 3356 made an emergency landing at Raleigh–Durham International Airport, North Carolina, on April 26th.
The plane was coming from Dallas, Texas, when an indicator light went off, prompting the crew to declare an emergency.
The plane landed safely. All ten passengers and three crew members remained unharmed.

What: Primera Air Boeing 737-700 en route from Greece to Dublin
Where: Dublin
When: Aug 14th 2009
Who: 148 passengers and 6 crew
Why: High fuel consumption observed during the flight appeared to point to a fuel leak, leading to an emergency landing in Dublin. The “minor” leak that was discovered in the left engine was repaired.

Maintenance saves the day, again…
Virgin Atlantic flight VS-89 had to return and make an emergency landing at Gatwick Airport, England, on July 27th.
The Airbus A330-300 plane took off for Saint Lucia but had to return shortly afterwards due to a hydraulic issue.
The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

What: Arkefly Boeing 737-800 en route from Kittilä to Amsterdam
Where: Rovaniemi Finland
When: Jan 3rd 2010
Who: 181 passengers, 7 crew
Why: After takeoff, the crew assumed there was a tail strike (no indication if this was witnessed or indicated by a resultant problem). The crew diverted to Rovaniemi where a maintenance crew was flown in to assess the plane.
Nouvelair flight BJ-808 had to return and make an emergency landing in Monastir, Tunisia, on June 27th.
The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Saint Petersburg, Russia, but had to return shortly afterwards due to a bird strike.
The plane landed safely. All one hundred and eighty people aboard remained unharmed.

What: American Airlines Boeing 777-200 en route from Dallas to Tokyo
Where: 43 miles southeast of Narita over the Pacific
When: Monday Oct 26 3:40 p.m.
Who: 228 people aboard
Why: As heavy weather ( Typhoon Lupit’s rain and strong winds) approach Japan’s east coast, the Japanese weather service announced a weather warning.
Several (5 passengers) aboard the Tokyo jet were injured by turbulence. After landing, all 5 were taken to a Tokyo area hospital.

What: Germanwings Airbus A319-100 en route from Vienna to Cologne
Where: Cologne
When: Dec 19th 2010
Why: On landing in Cologne, smoke in the cockpit sent pilots to the hospital. The smoke is so far unexplained.
