Why: Twenty minutes into the 55 minute flight, one of the engines was shut down due to engine trouble. The pilot wanted to land at Caucasia but there was too much fuel, so flew on to the destination at Monteria with its longer runway (6280 feet)) with one engine down.

What: Flybe de Havilland Dash 8-400 en route from Manchester to Bournemouth
Where: Manchester
When: Jul 25 2010
Who: 40 passengers
Why: While en route, the pilot announced to the passengers they were undergoing a technical problem. That problem worsened, and eventually necessitated shutting down one engine and returning to Manchester. Passengers were provided a flight to Southampton, and a bus to Bournemouth.
Nordic Regional Airlines Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Finland
Nordic Regional Airlines flight AY-487 made an emergency landing in Joensuu, Finland, on December 11th.
The plane was flying from Helsinki, Finland, when the crew needed to shut down one of the engines.
The plane continued for a safe landing. All 30 passengers and 4 crew members remained unharmed.
The flight was being operated on behalf of Finnair.
Qantas Grounds Q400s
After Flybe found problems with undercarriage fittings on its Bombardier Q400s, Qantas followed suit today and grounded 5 of its oldest Bombardiers on finding fittings issues.
It is projected that two QantasLink Bombardiers will be back in service this weekend, with four weeks allocated for completed repairs and return to service.
Alaska Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Engine Issue
Alaska Airlines flight AS-3298 had to return and make an emergency landing in King Salmon, Alaska, on February 7th.
The plane took off for Unalaska, Alaska, but had to turn back after the crew needed to shut down one of the engines.
The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

What: Saudi Arabian Airlines Boeing 777-200 en route from London to Jeddah Saudi Arabia
Where: Rome
When: Apr 6th 2011
Who: 232 passengers
Why: While en route, an engine developed problems and was shut down. The pilots diverted to Rome and made a safe landing. The engine indicated that it was overheated; but the mechanism was faulty. Repairs were performed, after which the flight was continued.
