Air India flight AI 965, heading to Jeddah via Hyderabad, returned to Mumbai airport, India, for emergency landing at 5:50 p.m. on August 15.
Reportedly some technical fault was discovered in the aircraft, due to which the pilots decided to return.
The aircraft, with 300 passengers on board, landed safely at Terminal 2 of the airport, after remaining in the air for 45 minutes.
The passengers were flown to their scheduled destination through an alternate aircraft at 9:22 p.m.
A Pegasus Airlines flight made an emergency landing at Sofia Airport in Bulgaria, on August 28th.
The plane, en-route from Antalya, Turkey to Amsterdam, Netherlands, was diverted after one of its engines failed.
The plane landed uneventfully.
There were 163 passengers and 6 crew members on-board at the time; none of them was hurt.
A Passenger jet had to make an emergency landing in Astrakhan, Russia, on the evening of September 13.
The incident happened when the airliner was on its way from Moscow to Gabala, Azerbaijan.
According to the police, “It has been established that a passenger born in 1963 hit a female flight attendant in the face without cause out of hooligan motives. The hooligan was detained by the transport police who had arrived at the scene.”
The passenger was arrested and the court has issued his detention orders on charges of disorderly conduct.
SriLankan Airlines flight UL-121 burst a tire on landing at Chennai International Airport, India, on February 17th.
The incident happened when the Airbus A330-200 plane was coming from Colombo, Sri Lanka.
All one hundred and forty-two passengers aboard remained safe.
All Nippon Airways flight NH-823 made an emergency landing at Narita International Airport, Japan, on September 25th.
The Boeing 767-300 plane took off for Taipei, Taiwan, but had to turn back after the left hand engine failed.
The plane landed uneventfully. There were 191 people aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.
The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.
Newspaper articles in July promised compensation to Air India crash victims, and here it is September, and they’re still arguing about compensation, which is still unpaid.
Perhaps this is partly due to financial circumstances, as independent sources say all Indian airlines are barely keeping afloat, due to competition, low fares and rising wages and fuel expenses,(not to mention corruption, and failed safety efforts) but in the worst shape are Kingfisher Airlines and the state-owned Air India. Liquor tycoon Vijay Mallya who controls Kingfisher, denies rumors of Kingfisher nearing its demise.
In mid-August, the government said it planned to take three months to financially restructure Air India. The turnaround plan is described as a hub-and-spoke route model. Costs will be cut by redeploying staff and unloading real estate.
According to Moody’s any loan to Air India is ‘credit negative’. Air India has incurred heavy losses and has been in the red since its the 2007 merger with Indian Airlines.
In the meantime, who knows when, or how much suffering families will be paid in compensation.
Vietjet flight VJ-198 made an emergency landing in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on November 19th.
The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Hanoi, Vietnam, but had to turn back due to indication of an issue with the fuel system.
The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
