Aer Lingus flight EI-145 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Shannon Airport, Ireland, on December 28th.
The Airbus A330-200 plane heading from Dublin, Ireland, to Los Angeles, California, was diverted due to an engine fire indication.
The plane landed safely. All two hundred and sixty-two passengers and eleven crew members remained unharmed.

What: Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-300 en route from Seattle to Saint Louis
Where: Omaha
When: Apr 14th 2012
Who: 11 injured
Why: While en route, the plane lost cabin pressure, oxygen masks deployed, and pilots decided to divert to Omaha where they made a safe landing. However on arrival, eleven passengers needed medical attention. Nine of them were treated at the airport with minor injuries, but continued the flight.
A replacement Southwest jet completed the last leg on Saturday.
American Airlines flight AA-782 made an emergency return to Tampa International Airport, Florida, USA, on November 25.
The Airbus A320-200 was en-route from Tampa to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, when the left hand engine was shut down due to over temperature, causing it to return.
The plane landed safely.
All 135 passengers aboard remained unhurt.
Alaska Airlines flight AS-2119 suffered a bird strike near Sacramento International Airport, California, on November 19th.
The incident happened when the plane flying from Portland, Oregon, was on approach to Sacramento Airport.
The plane continued for a safe landing. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
A small plane crashed near Corona Municipal Airport, California, on January 17th.
The single-engine plane had just taken off from the airport when the pilot noticed some issues and attempted to make an emergency landing.
There were two people aboard at the time; both were taken to hospital with moderate to severe injuries.
The FAA and the NTSB are investigating.

Why: After takeoff, the pilots received indications of problems with the right engine.
Passengers reported hearing noise from the engine, which jarred the plane.
Pilots shut down the engine and diverted back to Belo Horizonte where they made a safe landing. There is no indication if it was a bird strike or some other type of mechanical problem.

Why: By now, everyone has probably heard about this:
A captain who was locked in the airplane’s bathroom gave a passenger a security code to inform the co-pilot.
But when the co-pilot heard the passenger’s heavy accent, he told ATC “the captain has disappeared in the back and I have someone with a big foreign accent trying to access the cockpit.” ATC urged him to land ASAP.
The situation was resolved before the plane landed, and fortunately before the fighter jets were deployed.
