    Southwest Flight Diverts to San Antonio

    southwest_airlines_logoSouthwest flight 987 made an emergency landing in San Antonio, Texas, on December 13.

    The plane was heading from Austin to Valley International Airport, Harlingen, when the crew noticed that a part of the wing was missing and decided to divert.

    The plane landed uneventfully. There were 109 passengers and 5 crew members aboard at the time; all of them remained unhurt.

    The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

    Small Plane Crashed in Hawaii; 3 Injured

    A small plane crashed near Moanalua Freeway in Mapunapuna, Hawaii, on June 30th.

    The Piper PA28 plane was carrying three people when it went down under unknown circumstances.

    All three occupants of the plane sustained serious injuries, and were taken to a trauma center.

    The FAA and the NTSB are investigating.

    Small Plane Crash Took Lives of Two Utah Brothers

    CessnaA single- engine Cessna 172 crashed in Mohave County of northern Arizona, near the Utah-Arizona border at about 7:30 p.m. on July 20.

    Two brothers, Daulton Whatcott, 19 and Jaxon Whatcott, 16, were killed in the crash. Both of them were students of Syracuse High School; Jaxon was about to begin in junior year this fall while Daulton recently graduated in 2013. Whatcott family spokeswoman Taunie Reynolds confirmed the unfortunate deaths and said that Daulton had recently received pilot license and he was flying his brother to Las Vegas for a basketball tournament.

    The Mohave County sheriff’s office said that the accident happened just south of Virgin River Gorge, near Interstate 15 and about 25 miles southwest of St. George in Utah. The plane was en route to Mesquite, Nevada from Beaver, Utah at the time.

    According to the FAA records, the plane was registered to D&G Aircraft Leasing in Bountiful, Utah.

    The FAA and the NTSB are investigating the cause of accident.

    New Zealand Fuel Leak Engine Fire Emergency Landing

    What: Air New Zealand/ Mount Cook Airlines Aerospatiale ATR-72-500 on behalf of Air New Zealand en route from Dunedin to Wellington New Zealand
    Where: Wellington
    When: May 15th 2010
    Who: 61 passengers
    Why: On landing approach, the plane’s right engine caught on fire. The plane made a safe landing, shut down the engine and was met by emergency services.

    Maintenance found and replaced a leaking fuel line.

    Slippery Turkish Airlines Airbus On Skids in Mumbai

    What: Turkish Airlines Airbus A340-300 en route from Istanbul Turkey to Mumbai India
    Where: Mumbai
    When: Sep 2nd 2011
    Who: 93 passengers and 11 crew
    Why: After a fast landing in Mumbai on a slippery runway, the plane skidded off the runway onto mud, where it still sits.

    Passengers were provided an alternative flight. Photos of the jet on the runway show emergency slides. No injuries were published. The incident is under investigation.

    United Airlines Flight Returns to Newark Liberty International Airport

    United AirlinesUnited Airlines flight UA-1704 had to return and make an emergency landing at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, on March 14th.

    The plane took off for Austin, Texas, but had to return shortly afterwards due to strong odor in the cabin.

    The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unhurt.

    The incident is being investigated.
