    UN Cessna Crashes in Bolivia, 6 Perish

    What: Fuerza Aérea Boliviana Cessna T210 Turbo Centurion en route from El Alto International Airport in La Paz
    Where: Santa Elena River, Iquisiva Province, La Paz

    Who: 6 aboard
    Why: The Bolivian Air Force plane piloted by the air force and carrying four United Nations workers was doing a fly-by and did not return at 2:30 as scheduled. The plane, which had been missing since May 5 and a search going on in Yungas (Coroico, La Asunta and Caranavi). The flight was located near the Santa Elena River, where it appears that it hit a tree during an emergency landing.

    The passengers lost in the crash were Ivan Alfaro Santiago, Estephan Campos Ruiz, Mariela Romero Torreblanco and Patricia Delgado Rua, and the Cessna was being flown by Lt. Néstor Álvaro Ottich Arenas and Lt. José Javier Alegría Estrada.

    Planes Disappear after Airshow, No sign of Planes yet

    Where: Mountains South Of Tzaneen, South Africa
    When: August 14, 2011
    Who: 12 aboard
    Why: Two planes which had been flying in the Tzaneen Air Show took off afterwards to ferry passengers to Johannesberg.

    The flights were en route to Rand Airport in Germiston but did not arrive. The weather over Tzaneen was described as “bad.” The identities of the (missing)12-14 aboard have not been released and the planes have apparently not yet been found.

    The pilot of one of the missing aircraft is businessman Gruar Brian of Johannesburg. His wife and two young children are believed to be aboard and Mr Kevin Woolocott Ordinance program coordinator of the air show was one of the passengers. The copilot was Peter Oldenburg.

    Also presumed aboard are Mmes. Warden Louise Spence and Tess, photographer Frans Dely.

    The Wolkberg area near Tzaneen and George’s Valley in Limpopo are being searched. The search for the planes with six helicopters and military aircraft was delayed due to poor visibility due to fog, and has resumed. The mountainous terrain has made the search more difficult.

    Piaggio P166 planes are twin engine mediumsized aircraft, and ex air force planes.

    Thomas Cook Flight Diverted to Bermuda due to Drunk Passenger

    Thomas CookA Thomas Cook flight had to make an unscheduled landing in Bermuda, at around 6 p.m. on November 24.

    The flight was on its way from Manchester, England, to Cuba when a British man, identified as Mohammed Khelya, started threatening the flight crew, passengers and even his new wife. The pilot decided to divert to Bermuda while the crew members handcuffed the unruly passenger and kept him restrained at the back of the aircraft.

    The Airbus A330 safely landed at LF Wade International Airport where the security officials arrested Khelya.

    An airline spokesperson said, ‘Thomas Cook Airlines can confirm that flight TCX244 from Manchester to Holguin, Cuba, diverted to Bermuda and a customer was removed from the aircraft and detained by local police…We operate a zero-tolerance policy towards any behaviour on board our aircraft that affects the safety and welfare of our customers and crew.”

    Khelya was presented in Bermudan court on Tuesday where Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined him $3000.

    One survives Nairobi Crash

    What: Cezanne Air Express Cessna 401A
    Where: 10km west of Nairobi, Kenya
    When: Oct 21, 2011
    Who: 2 fatalities, 3 aboard
    Why: The flight took off from Wilson Airport taking Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exam papers to Marsabit and Lodwar and crashed. Witnesses describe the flight as spinning out of control before it crashed near a school. Kenya Red Cross Action team and Emergency Medical Services (Eplus Kenya) responded.

    The pilot and two passengers were hospitalized at Karen Hospital. Two died from the crash, one at the hospital. One passenger is still alive in critical condition.

    Air West Cargo: Illegal Cargo

    What: Air West Georgia Ilyushin IL-76 en route from Pyongyang North Korea to Colombo Sri Lanka
    Where: Bangkok
    When: Dec 12th
    Who: 5 crew
    Why: When the plane diverted to Bangkok for refueling, 35 tons of weapons (rocket propelled grenades and anti-aircraft Surface to Air Missiles) were discovered on board.

    The crew was detained on charges of arms trafficking.

    The destination could have been anywhere.

    Alitalia Airbus makes Safe Landing in Italy after Bird Strike

    AlitaliaAlitalia flight AZ-1637 made a safe landing at Bari International Airport-Karol Wojtyla, Bari, Italy, on October 26.

    The Airbus A320-200, flying from Linate Airport, Milan, Italy, sustained damage to one of its flaps due to bird strike.

    The plane landed safely.

    No one was injured.
