    British Airways 747 Diverts to Cardiff

    British Airways Boeing 747 with 158 passengers aboard en route from Houston to London diverted to Cardiff today after developing a “technical problem.” The flight made a safe landing at 10:43 in South Wales with emergency services on standby.

    There were no injuries. The Mayday was attributed to an instrument problem.

    After the plane was inspected, it continued on to Cardiff where it made a safe landing.

    British Airways Flight Returns to Heathrow Airport due to Landing Gear Issue

    British Airways flight BA-65 had to return and make an emergency landing at Heathrow Airport, England, on November 29th.

    The Boeing 747-400 plane took off for Nairobi, Kenya, but had to turn back after the crew failed to retract the landing gear.

    The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    American Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Brazil

    American Airlines flight AA-991 made an emergency landing in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, on April 6th.

    The Boeing 767-300 plane flying from Miami, Florida, was on final approach to Belo Horizonte when the crew declared an emergency due to an unsafe gear indication.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Hong Kong-Bound Air India Jet Diverts to Kolkata

    air indiaAir India flight AI314 made an emergency landing at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, on September 22.

    The Boeing Dreamliner, heading from Delhi to Hong Kong, was diverted after the pilots noticed a technical snag.

    The plane landed safely.

    All 216 passengers and 10 crew members aboard remained unhurt.

    Airworthiness Directive issued by Civil Aviation Administration of China

    Fortunately for Chinese passengers, aged Boeing 737s have drawn the attention of the CAAC. (These are the types of planes which demonstrated fatigue when a hole blew in the fuselage of a Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 on April 1.) Planes with 35,000 total flight cycles or more will be inspected within 4 days; and those with between 30,000 and 35,000 will be inspected within twenty days. The CAAC says that most of the Boeings are new.

    Air France flight AF-428 had to return and make an emergency landing at Charles de Gaulle Airport, France, on August 21st.
