    KLM Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Atlanta

    KLM flight KL-624 had to return and make an emergency landing in Atlanta, Georgia, on January 8th.

    The plane took off for Amsterdam, Netherlands, but had to return shortly afterwards after the crew detected a water leak into the avionics.

    The plane landed back uneventfully. All 325 people aboard remained safe.

    What: Germanwings Airbus A319-100 en route from Stuttgart to Heraklion
    Where: Stuttgart
    When: Jul 25th 2010
    Why: After takeoff, the Airbus had a bird strike. The pilots returned to Stuttgart where they made a safe landing. A replacement jet was flown in for passengers. There’s no report of the damage, nor if the incident involved ingestion into the engine, or impact only.

    United Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Las Vegas

    United Airlines flight UA-642 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Las Vegas, Nevada, on July 10th.

    The Boeing 757-200 plane heading from Los Angeles, California, to Newark, New Jersey, was diverted due to an engine problem.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Sky-Diving Plane Makes Emergency Landing on New Jersey Highway

    cessnaskylanet182tA sky-diving plane had to make an emergency landing at route 72 in Stafford Township, New Jersey, on the morning of July 12.

    The single-engine plane had to be landed in emergency after it apparently lost engine power. The plane was carrying 5 people, including 3 students and an instructor from the Skydive East Coast sky-diving school, at the time.

    The plane landed uneventfully. Authorities said the instructor received a minor cut on his arm while everyone else remained unhurt.

    The FAA is investigating.

    What: Northwest Airlines McDonnell Douglas DC-9 en route from Buffalo to Detroit
    Where: Buffalo
    When: Jan 28 2010
    Why: After takeoff, the right engine developed vibration, leading the crew to shut down the affected engine. The flight returned to Buffalo and made a safe landing.
