    Light Craft Crashes in Hancock County

    What: Piper PA-22-150 single engine aircraft
    Where: Greenfield County, Indiana
    When: May 26, 2012, 7:00 a.m.
    Who: 3 aboard
    Why: Near the Pennsy biking trail and County Road 400 east, a single engine aircraft, a Piper PA-22-150 Tri-Pacer has crashed.

    The accident occurred south of Pope Airfield where the pilot had just attempted takeoff but failed to achieve adequate lift to fly over the treeline.

    They did miss power lines.

    Pilot Melvin Grant, of Greenfield, and passengers Mark Grant and Andrew Pfaff were taken to Indianapolis’s Methodist Hospital.

    The FAA is investigating.

    American Airlines Diversion


    On March 23, 2013, an American Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-83 Newark-Dallas flight diverted to Dulles when the first officer got sick.

    There were 141 passengers aboard American Airlines 1589, who disembarked in Dulles and boarded another flight at 2:00 pm.

    The first officer was hospitalized.

    Student Pilot in Palo Alto Lesson Scare

    What: single engine Beechcraft Musketeer on student flight
    Where: East Palo Alto’s Ravenswood Open Space Preserve
    When: 08/23/2011, 9:30 am
    Who: instructor and student pilot
    Why: While practicing touch and go maneuvers at Palo Alto Airport, the plane’s engine failed.

    When the engine failed, the plane went down in the Ravenswood Open Space Preserve. A plane crashed there in Feb of 2010, which shook the neighborhood, but many locals were unaware of when this incident happened. This was an emergency landing, although the plane went off course after glancing against a tree.

    Both Instructor Jassen Todorov and student pilot David Shoemaker survived.

    Mistral Air Plane Returns to Italy due to Engine Shut Down

    Mistral AirMistral Air flight AZ-1822 had to return and make an emergency landing at Trapani, Italy, on April 9.

    The Avions de Transport Regional ATR-72-212A, en-route to Pantelleria, Italy, had to return due to an engine problem. The crew had to shut-down the engine mid-air.

    The plane landed safely.

    All 33 people aboard remained safe.

    Air Canada Bird Strike over Montreal

    What: Air Canada Embraer ERJ-190 en route from Orlando to Montreal
    Where: Montreal
    When: Jun 21st 2009
    Who: 85 people on board
    Why: After a normal lift-off and flight, on approach to Montreal, birds struck the plane’s right wing lodging the flaps in an extended position. Despite the slat problem, the plane landed safely within 20 minutes of the strike.

    Hydraulics Failure on United Airlines Airbus

    What: United Airlines Airbus A320-200 en route from San Diego to Denver,CO
    Where: Denver
    When: Oct 21st 2009
    Why: While en route, one of the three on board hydraulics systems failed. After landing, the Airbus had to be towed. The plane landed safely with no injuries and had to be towed, as anticipated.
