    Asiana Airlines Flight Returns to Los Angeles due to Cargo Smoke Indication

    asianaAsiana Airlines flight OZ-201 had to return and make an emergency landing in Los Angeles, California, on September 27th.

    The Airbus A380-800 plane took off for Seoul, South Korea, but had to return shortly afterwards due to a cargo smoke indication.

    The plane landed uneventfully. There were 353 people aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.

    KLM Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Amsterdam

    KLM flight KL-1641 had to return and make an emergency landing in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on January 19th.

    The plane took off for Florence, Italy, but had to turn back due to the failure of anti-ice systems.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    What: LIAT de Havilland Dash 8-300 en route from Antigua to St. Lucia
    Where: Antigua
    When: Jan 10th 2010
    Who: not available
    Why: Twice in a row this plane took off and returned to Antigua after an emergency warning and engine shut down. Twice in a row the plane made a safe landing back in Antigua.

    One hopes the passengers were somehow accommodated. No more details available.

    Windhoek Nambia: SAX Emergency Landing

    What: South African Express Airways Canadair CRJ-200 en route from Cape Town to Windhoek
    Where: Windhoek Namibia
    When: April 17 2010
    Why: The SAX CRJ landed with a hung nose wheel. (belly landing?) After landing with nose gear up, there were no injuries although airport operations were disrupted.

    Emirates Emergency Landing at Lusaka

    What: Emirates Airbus A330-200 em route from Lusaka to Dubai
    Where: Lusaka, Zambia
    When: Oct 21, 2012
    Why: After takeoff, the flight developed a technical problem.

    The pilot returned to the airport to make a safe landing at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport. The plane continued to the gate where passengers disembarked. Emirates representatives have indicated that earlier reports that the plane crash landed were incorrect; and that passengers were accommodated in hotels and have now been re-booked on alternative flights with Emirates or other airlines. Passengers reported hearing a bang in an engine, a bumpy thirty minute flight back to the airport and on disembarking, seeing a hole in the engine.

    Air India Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Delhi

    airindialogoAir India flight AI-460 made an emergency landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, India, on October 12th.

    The plane was flying from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India, when the crew declared an emergency due to a technical issue.

    The plane landed safely. There were more than 100 passengers and crew members aboard at the time; all of them remained unharmed.
