Austrian Airlines flight OS-26 made an emergency landing in Istanbul, Turkey, on February 6th.
The Boeing 777-200 plane heading from Bangkok, Thailand, to Vienna, Austria, was diverted after the crew needed to shut down one of the engines.
The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
WestJet Encore flight 3105 made an emergency landing in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada, on November 22nd.
The plane heading from Vancouver to Terrace, Canada, was diverted after the crew reported an issue with the front landing gear.
The plane landed uneventfully. All 40 passengers and 4 crew members remained safe.
On July 12, 2013, an Alaska Airlines BOEING 738 on flight 769 developed an odor in the cabin.
Pilots diverted to Chicago where they made a safe landing.
Three flight attendants were affected.
The flight made a safe landing with no additional injuries. The incident is under investigation.

What: Westjet Airlines Boeing 737-600 en route from Calgary to Saskatoon (Canada)
Where: Calgary’s runway 34
When: Apr 23rd 2009
Why: The plane was in position on Calgary’s runway 34 when Canadair CRJ-700 flight QK-8339 from Winnipeg,MB to Calgary was cleared to cross runway 34. The error was recognized; takeoff clearance was revoked, the Jazz CRJ cleared the runway; and then the Canadair flight was cleared again for takeoff.

My favorite event is a non-event. The accident that didn’t happen.
So first he (the Boeing) is on runway 34 ready to go, then Air Traffic Control realizes they’re making a mistake because the Jazz about to cross the same runway, so Air Traffic Control stops him, and the other plane (the Jazz) goes ahead and crosses the runway, and they clear him (the Boeing); this time when he is cleared to go again the way is actually clear, and the Westjet Boeing manages to take off without any more issues.
Except possibly a bottle of Tums for the pilot and crew; and glasses and a caffeine adjustment for Air Traffic Control.
I can’t help but picture the scene in that 1981 movie Modern Problems (that no one but me saw) where two air traffic controllers go over the edge; one believing he’s moving a model plane around with his mind, and the other actually doing it.

Details from the confidential MH17 report that was handed over to Australian experts on June 2nd have not been revealed. The report questions if the flight path should have routed the passenger jet over a known war zone. The report is based on conclusions drawn by experts from Australia, Malaysia, the Ukraine, the US, Russia, the UK and the Netherlands, but those conclusions have not been revealed to the public. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau, which had experts on the committee, has not made a public statement. The final report is expected in October 2015.

A military C-98 went missing Thursday between Cruzeiro do Sul in northwestern Acre state and the Amazonas town of Tabatinga. Eleven were on board. Nine survived, rescued by Matis Indians who live in the area.
The bodies of two plane crash victims were found in the Amazon rainforest Sunday. The C-98 Caravan wreckage was found about six feet deep in the river. One body was found in the plane, the other close by.
The miltary mission of the plane was anindigenous community immunization campaign.
The engine of the plane stopped in mid-air, the pilot landing (deliberately or not) in the Itui River.

Why: After takeoff, the flight developed cabin pressurization issues.
A half hour after takeoff, the flight returned to Vnukovo Airport in Moscow, and made a safe landing.
