    NTSB Sends Assistance

    On Jan 16, 2013, an ANA All Nippon Airways Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner was en route from Yamaguchi-Ube Airport to Tokyo-Haneda Airport when smoke in the forward electrical compartment developed. Also, an unusual smell was detected.

    The flight made an emergency landing.

    There were 137 passengers aboard.One passenger was injured in the evacuation. The firefighters did not find any fire.

    The NTSB sent out a release that said “The National Transportation Safety Board is sending an investigator to Japan to assist in the investigation of an emergency landing of an ANA Boeing 787 that occurred yesterday. Initial reports indicate that the crew received multiple messages in the cockpit concerning the battery and other systems that were affected, and also reported smoke in the cockpit and an odor in the cabin. The airplane subsequently landed, and passengers and crew evacuated via emergency slides.”

    Investigator Lorenda Ward is the U. S. accredited representative to the JTSB’s investigation and will work alongside reps from the FAA and Boeing.

    Smartwings Flight Overruns Runway at Pardubice Airport

    Smartwings flight QS-1903 overran the end of the runway upon landing at Pardubice Airport, Czech Republic, on August 1st.

    The incident happened when the Boeing 737-800 plane was coming from Heraklion, Greece.

    The plane came to stop on soft ground.

    No injuries were reported.

    EasyJet Flight Makes Emergency Landing at London Stansted Airport

    EasyJet flight U2-7435 had to make an emergency landing at London Stansted Airport, England, on July 5th.

    The Airbus A319-100 plane heading from London Southend Airport, England, to Malaga, Spain, was diverted due to a bird strike.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Fighter Jets Escort Air Algerie Flight to Lyon, France

    Air Algerie flight AH-1460 was intercepted by two French fighter jets on the way to Lyon, France, on January 9th.

    The Mirage 2000 fighter jets were dispatched after the Boeing 737-800 plane, flying from Constantine, Algeria, lost communication with the ATC.

    The plane continued for a safe landing under escort. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    BA Flight Diverts to Siberia due to Smoking Smartphone

    britishairwaysBritish Airways flight BA18 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Irkutsk city of Siberia, Russia, on August 21.

    The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, en-route from South Korea’s Incheon International Airport to London’s Heathrow airport, was diverted after a passengers’ smartphone began emitting smoke due to a ‘thermal runaway’.

    The plane landed uneventfully. There were 205 passengers aboard at the time; all of them remained unhurt.

    The plane was able to resume its journey after 3 hours.

    Chopper Crashes on Devon Hotel Grounds

    What: 2 seat helicopter
    Where: Devon
    When: May 16 2011
    Who: 2 aboard
    Why: The 2 seat helicopter crashed on the grounds of the Gridleigh Park Hotel in Devon. The wind was reported blowing at about 30 plus knots.

    Devon and Somerset Fire Service responded, and used foam on the chopper which is said to have landed on its roof. The two aboard were injured, treated on the scene.
