    What: Air Canada Airbus A319-100 en route from Toronto to Liberia Costa Rica
    Where: south of Pittsburgh
    When: Aug 29th 2009
    Why: Forty minutes into the flight, the left engine developed vibration. The flight returned to Toronto and safely performed an “overweight” landing. Passengers debarked and transferred to a replacement Airbus.

    Cargolux Plane Returns to Canada after AoA Vane Goes Missing

    cargoluxCargolux flight CV-775 had to return and make an emergency landing at Calgary International Airport, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, on May 28th.

    The Boeing 747-400, en-route to Luxembourg, had to return shortly after the crew heard a loud bang followed by the stick shaker activating. It later turned out that an AoA (Angle of Attack) vane was missing.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    All people onboard remained safe.

    Turbulence Injures Attendent

    What: United Airlines /Shuttle America Embraer ERJ-170 en route from Chicago to Newark
    Where: Detroit
    When: Apr 23rd 2011
    Why: While en route, the flight encountered severe turbulence that injured a flight attendant. The pilot diverted to detroit and made a safe landing. It is not clear if the flight attendant was hospitalized in detroit, only that undesignated injuries occurred.

    Russian Plane Makes Emergency Landing due to Singing Passenger

    A Russian plane had to make an emergency landing at Chelyabinsk Airport in Russia, on June 19.

    The plane took off from Irkutsk, Siberia and was heading to Moscow when it had to land in Chelyabinsk due to a psychotic woman, who was singing songs and throwing water on the passengers.

    The plane landed safely.

    The woman, who is believed to have Russian and Israeli citizenship, was taken to a local psychiatric hospital.

    JetBlue Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Strong Odor in Cabin

    JetBlue flight B6-39 made an emergency landing in San Jose, Costa Rica, on June 7th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane flying from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was descending toward San Jose when the crew noticed a strong odor in the cabin and declared an emergency.

    The plane continued for a safe landing.

    Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    American Eagle Flight Lands in Emergency with Cracked Windshield

    American eagleAn American Eagle flight, operated by Express Jet, had to divert and make an emergency landing at Mid-Continent Airport in Wichita, Kansas, just after 8:30 a.m. on September 22.

    The Flight 2539 was on its way from Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Dallas, Texas, with 49 passengers and 3 crew members aboard, when its windshield cracked midair.

    The pilots then decided to divert to Wichita where it made an uneventful emergency landing. Everyone aboard remained unhurt.

    Investigators are looking into the cause of crack.
